Biden as a non-candidate - 9/10/01
Getting ready for a family funeral showing, I had CSpan on and was scarcely paying attention the night before 9/11. Biden was speaking and really got me to paying attention. He was saying how unprepared this country was for a terrorist attack, about how unchecked ships could come in at any time, and the borders weren't secure, and more needed to be done to keep us safe. He had me frightened....

Next morning, I was getting ready to go to the funeral home (my sister died), and had the tv on. Saw the plane go into the tower, couldn't believe it; called a relative from NY also here for funeral to tell her about the plane when the other plane hit. Unfreakin beleivable. The first thing I thought about was Biden's warning speech the night before on CSpan. He is no dummy and 9/11 would never have gone down had he been in office. I always liked him for Pres since then but nobody else seemed to be interested in him.

I wonder if CSpan has his speech from 9/10/01. You should all hear it.

2. Thanks for sharing this, fadedrose.
I'm condolences go out to you for the loss of your sister.

I concur with you on Biden. It just wouldn't make sense to nominate one of the other candidates when we could have Sen. Biden as our candidate. And I feel certain that a majority of our country would agree as well.

3. Biden has been MY candidate since he declared. I blame the
media for his lack of showing in the polls. Listen to him in any of the debates. Even though he doesn't get nearly the time the top 3 get, he still says the most impressive things. All my hope for him rests in Iowa. They've been known for upsets in the past, and I keep hoping we'll see it again!

in a more focused setting, where I really had time to hear out his thoughts. (not a debate) He's a good guy and he'd be good for the country.

5. I scarcely paid attention from 1980 - 2000.
I applaud your attention & memory & thank you for recalling it, especially at this very critical time.

I'm one of the many who tuned out after the Ronnie Raygun fiasco of 1980. Shame on me. But I was so absolutely disgusted at the manipulation of the Iranian hostage situation that I decided to drop out of politics. I went blissfully unaware through the next two decades.

Come 2000, uninformed, I believed the "Gore is no different from Bush" rhetoric. Yes, I voted for Nader. In my defense, I will say three things: 1) I would not have voted or paid attention if it had not been for the unique combination of Nader on the GREEN ticket; 2) I was not in a forgiving mood toward the American masses for being duped in 1979; & 3) at least my 2000 Nader vote woke me up from my two decades slumber. This resulted in my paying attention to 12/12/00 theft of the American presidency by SCOTUS. Since then, I have been awake & pissed off.

As for 2008, in all my voting years, in spite of the two decades I slumbered through, I have not felt as positive & energetic as I do for Joe Biden.

JOE ROCKS!!

7. Thanks for all your responses, another point.....
When I was a kid, my immigrant parents hardly understood English, but I remember them listening to FD Roosevelt with all their attention, respect and what looked to me like love...corny maybe.

When I heard Biden speak that night, there was no reason to be listening to any political speeches, the election was over, nothing was going on, but he reigned me in.

In case of another catastrophe, Biden would do a fabulous job of garnering support without talking DOWN to us. He always seems to assume that we're as bright as he is and speaks that way. Roosevelt was like that.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a President that you could listen to because you enjoyed hearing him speak?

When I compare Hillary's hahahahhahahahah to Biden, I cringe.

http://www.joebiden.com/getinformed/speeches?id=0007

It's pretty long, as we all know Biden likes to talk. It is worth reading, if you are interested.

But this is the amazing part: (setting it up - this admin was trying to bring back Star Wars which Biden was against)

"But they're willing to pull out of an ABM Treaty that sends the signal to the rest of the world the end of arms control has arrived. And what protection do we have in the near term, let alone down the road?

Sure, we'll do all we can to defend ourselves against any threat, nobody denies that, but even the Joint Chiefs says that a strategic nuclear attack is less likely than a regional conflict, a major theater war, terrorist attacks at home or abroad, or any number of other real issues. We'll have diverted all that money to address the least likely threat, while the real threat comes to this country in the hold of a ship, the belly of a plane, or smuggled into a city in the middle of the night in a vial in a backpack.

And I ask you, you want to do us damage, are you more likely to send a missile you're not sure can reach us with a biological or chemical weapon because you don't have the throw weight to put a nuclear weapon on it and no one's anticipating that in the near term, with a return address saying, "It came from us, here's where we are?" Or are you more likely to put somebody with a backpack crossing the border from Vancouver down to Seattle, or coming up the New York Harbor with a rusty old ship with an atom bomb sitting in the hull? Which are you more likely to do? And what defense do we have against those other things?

13. From your post picture, I assume you like Obama
I like him too. But he's kinda young. Would be a great Majority Leader in the Senate, probably one of the best we ever had. Reed is a good man and I hope he gets reelected, but I'd rather see someone else in his spot.

20. I've heard Biden speak of going cross country checking the ports and boarders
and learned first hand how vulnerable we are. In Tacoma or Seattle (forget which) he was standing on the pier with the customs person surrounded by countless containers. The customs person said "we don't have to worry about them coming in from the water - they can be in the country and come right down here and put something in one of these containers". There was like one customs agent for the entire port.

And of course, nothing has been done to rectify the situation.

i don't know if any other candidate has looked into this issue so closely. Biden understands the risk.
