Jeb, Hillary have same idea on immigrants

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton's support this week for offering driver's licenses to illegal immigrants unleashed a firestorm from predictable conservative quarters.

But three years ago, none other than conservative icon Jeb Bush supported a bill that would have done just that.

Under the bill sponsored by Hialeah Republican Sen. Rudy Garcia, applicants would have had to clear background checks in Florida and their home countries. Many illegal immigrants drive anyway, supporters said, so licensing them would make the roads safer while alerting federal officials to criminal suspects.

''We shouldn't allow them to come into our country to begin with,'' Bush said in 2004. ``But once they're here, what do you do? Do you say that they're lepers to society? That they don't exist? It seems that a policy that ignores them is a policy of denial.''

Let's see: Bush is anathema. People in the media and here at DU are doing their very very although pathetic best to link Hillary to Bush the way BushCo linked Saddam to bin Ladin. Hmmm. Nah. Couldn't be the same people doing the same damn thing over and over?
