Rep. Hunter urges Bush to fire rebellious officials who complain Baghdad assignment 'death sentence'
http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=58494

Responding to reports that State Department officials are refusing to serve in Iraq because it's too dangerous, Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., has proposed a novel plan to President Bush – to bypass the agency and recruit from among U.S. military troops discharged after suffering injury.

Hunter, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, told talk-radio host Glenn Beck today he met with Bush just 30 minutes prior to the interview and gave him a letter outlining the plan.

"I said, 'Let's go over to Bethesda and Walter Reed (hospitals) and as we get these new – these soldiers and Marines who are embarking on new careers," Hunter said, "let's recruit them for the State Department; and let's fire these guys that refuse to go, and we'll give the State Department careers to these military guys."

2. Hey, here's an even BETTER idea, Dunkie!
Why don't YOU go?

It would make for a great photo-op that I'm sure the MSM would lap up like butter!

It would also boost your image among people who DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU'RE RUNNING!

Of course, the best course of action would be to "fire these guys" that started this quagmire of a war, and "give their political careers" to people who know what the fuck they're doing.

That might work out well, too.

3. Are State Dept. employees political appointees?
If they are then I agree with Hunter. If they got their jobs by being Republicans, then they can take their happy asses to Iraq or be fired.

6. nope
They're professionals, members of the foreign service. They get their jobs through a tough competition. They do the nitty gritty work of "diplomacy". They analyze, write reports, like that.

These aren't the political bagmen like your govt likes to appoint as ambassadors to ... oh ... Canada. ;) They're regular, working people, often with a genuine desire to serve.

And what they need is

(like our govt employees have up here, of course).

Failing that, a new president would probably do ...

7. Okay, thanks. I tried to find out on their website but I couldn't tell
Basically, if they're politicos, off to Iraq. If they're professionals, then only if they want to go.

4. Hunter's retiring. Why doesn't he volunteer to go?
Yeah, and he should take Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and just about every other talking head on TV and wingnut in Congress with him.

All those people BELIEVE in the Iraq war. They SUPPORT the Prez. They claim to be more patriotic and more sincere than those wussy Dems and liberals and state department employees.

So why shouldn't they put their mouth where their money is and put their OWN asses on the line?

For a change.
