Clinton puts her war room on attack
Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 12:00 PM by NewHampster
I am a Hillary supporter and don't for one minute think this isn't one of the prime reasons I love this woman. She will fight and fight to win this, and then follow through on the trust we have placed in her. GO GO Hillary!

From The Sunday Times (London)
November 4, 2007

Clinton puts her war room on attack
Sarah Baxter, Washington

The “war room”, the hub of attack, counter-attack and spin which was at the heart of Bill Clinton’s presidential campaigns in the 1990s, has swung back into action with renewed force after Hillary Clinton was bloodied by her rivals for the first time in a debate last week.

With so few stumbles on the road to the presidential nomination, her war room has barely been needed until now but it has quietly been prepared for the moment when she trips up.

It was Hillary Clinton who invented the war room during her husband’s campaign and she has developed her own fighting machine. “Her operation is formidable,” said Jeff Gerth, co-author of Her Way, a well regarded Clinton biography. “Politics is not a polite sport and if you’re not prepared to rough it you’re going to get rolled over.” ...

<snip>

Their philosophy is similar to that of the mysterious unofficial website www.Hillaryis44.com – a reference to her would-be status as the 44th president – which warns darkly that one of the clearest threats to her election will come from “Democrats who repeat Republican propaganda to undermine Hillary”......

2. This approach is one reason to like her
and if she does get the nomination, hopefully we won't have to read a bunch of crap like we did with Kerry. Kerry really fell down on the job when it came to fighting attacks.

Kerry is the one who has been leading the fight the last 3 years, she has had to be drug to the fight every fucking time.

Makes your head spin, doesn't it?

Personally, I prefer Shinola too...

:eyes:

"Invent the internet"! Why even go there? That phrase is pure RW trash, why use it to attack Clinton?

5. Now that's interesting when Hillary and her thugs declare war on dems.
rather than debate issues. So it's to be Hillary whether we like it or not? I guess that shows who the dinos are.

She didn't set up a war room before she was ever attacked in order to declar war on Dems. Oh no no. She's an innocent victim of sexism, doncha know.

I'm so tired of hearing war this, war that, war on drugs, war on terror, war, war, war ~ says a whole lot about our culture and it makes me sick.

Also, her Republicanesque hawkishness is the thing I like least about Hillary.

7. The purpose is for the general and the repugs
I think they sincerely hoped not to need it for the primaries, but they are prepared nonetheless to win.

Please read the article before judging.

8. I think it's great that Hillary stands up for herself in a big way...
...and addresses whatever is unfairly said about her swiftly and surely (as Kerry didn't do) ~ just don't like the "war" terminology.

As far as the hawkishness on the Middle East, I strongly object to Hillary's positions on Iraq and Iran, and I suspect she is influenced too much by the Israel lobby ~ which I don't think is in the best interest of Americans.

15. It means that Obama is a nice guy. Too nice
He is not capable of the sort of fighting we'll need in the general election.

Nothing wrong with his good nature, it's the repugs that make us need a war room in the first place.

26. I lived it
Nothing they promised for the "middle class" ever did a thing for me or anybody I know. The only benefit of having a Democrat like the Clintons is that they have to make some noises towards the environment and civil rights to appease the Barbara Streisands of the world.

28. Clinton didn't do nearly as much for the environment...
...as he indicated he would while campaigning ~ I was absolutely thrilled when he chose Gore (who had already written Earth in the Balance) as VP, but then Clinton didn't make the environment a priority in the administration. I felt we environmentalists who worked hard for Clinton were misled and used ~ like evangelicals must feel about having worked for Bush.

29. We were in a bit of a limbo
At least there was that. But not making it a priority allowed the Republicans to just pick back up where they left off in the 70's. And even some of his land swap programs created ugly ski resorts which stressed the local resources and didn't always provide the economic benefits either. He did a few good things, immunizations for one, but they let way too much slide that paved the way for the current disasters.

30. "they let way too much slide that paved the way for the current disasters."
That's why I don't believe in middle-of-the-road politics ~ DLC Dems do a bit of good but set the stage for ten steps backward when Republicans get back into office.

I think we need to offer a very clear and progressive alternative based on the moral underpinnings of our Constitution and the urgent conditions of our world. Right now the Democratic party doesn't stand for anything an uninitiated voter could put his or her finger on.

31. Uninitiated voters can find differences
pro-choice, pro-life. Clear cutting, roadless areas. Food stamps, starvation.

The problem isn't on the extremes, it's in how to move forward between the extremes. That's where the uninitated voter sees Democrats all on one side and Republicans all on the other. Clinton and Blair came up with the Third Way, unfortunately that was the wrong way too.

35. Like using "victim" as an insult
When she didn't call herself a victim at all. Rich people complain about being overtaxed but does anybody ever insult them by saying they are making themselves victims? Never. Because the "victim" insult is a RW creation.
