Poll question: Who else is sick and tired about all 'sexism'-threads?
Are we done yet? It's getting childish. Who's with me? Should we stop "bitching" about this?

3. This poll is sexist. Probably racist and...
homophobic, too. I am insulted, outraged, and just plain ol' pissed off.

Prepare to defend your indulgence in flaming bigotry. Apologies will do you no good-- the dmamge is done.

5. After innumerable "Obama is a homophobe," "Impeach Bush" etc. posts
I'm having trouble understanding the reluctance of some people to tolerate the sexism threads.

For some reason, some DUers are either uncomfortable with or, in some cases, outright hostile toward, any discussion of racism and sexism. I wonder why.

By the way, if people are "sick and tired about all 'sexism'-threads," why not just not read or participate in them?

13. It's not the message, it's the messenger.
I smell divide & conquer politics, faux outrage and opportunism from the "war room." We have NOT had an honest, productive discussion about this tonite, yet, out of how many threads?

As I said before, if you really want to educate, help or persuade somebody, you won't be an asshole about it. Same goes if you really want to try to learn, or understand another's point-of-view.

It's not happening tonight. Sorry.

It's because of the assholery of sexists and racists. That must be it.

19. You imply something that's not there.
For some reason, some DUers are either uncomfortable with or, in some cases, outright hostile toward, any discussion of racism and sexism. I wonder why.

First of all, I'm not uncomfortable with or hostile toward anything. Second, with this last sentence, you imply that everybody who gets tired about 300 threads a day, is either a sexist or a racist. No, I am (we are) not. We're just tired.

Difference with kind of posts you mentioned, is that the thing that started all the other threads, was really a none-issue. Like saying "grow some balls" or "stop bitching" is some terrible evil thing, when they are merely expressions. While topics you mentioned, like Obama is a homophobic and Bush should be impeached are real important issues. And by the way, you know as well as I do, that those topics don't get 300 imitative threads *a day*

(and also not imitative threads of people who try to be funny, but overdo themselves.) ;)

26. Still, why would "some DUers" be sexists/racists merely for not wanting to discuss
certain topics over and over again?

Maybe we all have short attention spans! :P

30. I don't think it's for not wanting to discuss it.
Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 11:47 PM by lwfern
It's actually more to do with actively trying to disrupt other people's conversations about it and shut those conversations down, as well as arguing that things aren't sexist when they very obviously are (gender slurs, refusing to discuss any other aspect of women except as objectified sex objects, etc.).

Not wanting to discuss a topic would mean just not reading/responding to the thread.

This OP is a good case in point - starting a new thread on sexism to discuss how you are tired of other people discussing sexism. Well, you obviously aren't tired of it, you are starting a new thread yourself on the topic. So I'm left to conclude you are trying to prevent OTHER people from discussing sexism among the left. If I tried to prevent people from discussing racism among the left, that goes beyond a lack of interest (apathy) and people would be justified in that case in calling me racist.

Now if you look at the poll options themselves, it's clear this is lounge material at best, more accurately just flame bait. Right?

But it's posted in GD: Politics, so what is the political point you are trying to make here?

33. A lot of assumptions that are just not true.
I think a lot of people would be glad to discuss sexism in a constructive way. But this whole cycle began when somebody complained that we can't say "grow a pair" anymore, because it is sexist and hurting. Now that, in my opinion, is trivial and it's over-acting. Not wanting to go along with that doesn't make me a sexist.

And yes, if somebody would've started a thread stating we couldn't say "I have a dark vision about the future" anymore (just making this example up as I type this), because it would be offensive to people with a dark skin color, it would be just as absurd, and you would *not* be a racist if you said so.

What's political about this poll? All day, all discussions aren't about politics, but about what people can and cannot say. We're not talking about politics anymore. Aren't there more important things than discussing whether or not you can call me a "dick" or I can call you a "witch"?

if they would stop posting sexist comments, they would see a marked reduction in posts complaining about sexist comments.

At least some of the people who claim to be outraged about all the complaints of sexism have deliberately gone out of their way to use offensive and sexist language in a thread requesting that folks give it a rest. And we can see it in the OP here as well, deliberate inclusion of a sexist slur just to make the point that they don't care if their sexism offends people, I guess - unless there's another reason to include it that I didn't see. And then they are shocked (!) that people are still complaining about sexism here. Imagine that.
