how to do it? It seems to me as we get closer to the '08 election that * will have to make his move.

1. no.
did you know that this or slight variations of it, have been posted 4 other times today?

First off bush doesn't need lessons and secondly, bush isn't going to declare marital law and cancel elections.

2. what makes you so sure?
Do you think he has done away with Habeus Corpus, and allowed torture and wiretapping and put other "unitary Executive" measures in place to just lay down and leave office nice and peacefully? Please make your case to us. Just saying he won't declare martial law, suspend the contstitution or cancel elections doesn't mean he won't. I'm not convinced.

4. OK, I don't think
bush is terribly eager to remain in the White House. He's not mentally equipped to hang onto power. He's mentally lazy, and I think he's much more interested in going back to Texas and making tons of bucks. Yes, he's petulant and wants his own way, but that doesn't indicate that he wants to stay on.

How would you accomplish instituting martial law in this country? It would be a logistical nightmare. We're heavily armed and have thousands of miles of laxly guarded borders. Our armed services are already grossly overextended. Many in the Guard would revolt and so would many Governors. Do you really see Eliot Spitzer going along with this? Hell, I doubt my own repuke governor wouldn't.

People in this country WILL fight back. I know the prevailing wisdom is that the American people are all "good germans"; I don't buy it. Over 60% of Americans are already opposed to bushco.

About the only way he could pull this off is to set off a nuke in the middle of Los Angeles or Chicago or NY. And no, I don't see them doing that.

And if you care passionately about Habeas Corpus, you should spell it correctly.

Now please lay out HOW you think he could accomplish placing the U.S. under martial law.

3. This is a very valid question...
...and DU has been saturated with post after post about these
wretched neocons and their amoral stunts which could lead to
anything.

After all, they steal elections, start illegal wars, watch unaffected
as untold numbers of innocents die due to their evil.

It's natural to wonder about their respect (or lack thereof) of our
elections--especially since they have no respect for the Constitution,
the Bill of Rights or the inherent checks-and-balances of our government.

However, I do believe that the answer is no. I believe it's no, because
I firmly believe that the neocon wing of the Republican party will make
damn sure that the next pResident will carry on the PNAC agenda. It's
all ready fixed for that eventuality.

6. Not Happening
This like trying to prove a negative. There is no evidence (even when you consider some of this gang's extralegal shenanigans)that they would even attempt such a move. Folks on this blog have made many predictions that elections would be suspended, etc. None of these most far fetched speculations have come to pass.

7. You have heard of Guantanamo Bay, haven't you?
You do know that anyone - you, me, your grandmother - can be disappeared there on nothing but Bush's whim, don't you?
