Biden not interested in Clinton's VP, citing 'dominant' Bill
DES MOINES, Iowa (CNN) -- Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Joe Biden on Sunday ruled out the vice presidential slot altogether if Sen. Hillary Clinton is his party's nominee, saying her husband would overshadow the position.

"If I don't win the nomination, the likely nominee is going to be Hillary," Biden, D-Delaware, told CNN, "and I love Bill Clinton, but can you imagine being vice president?"

The former president "is such a dominant and powerful and positive force that I think the question is if you're going to stay in public life do you want to be a contributor ... I'm not looking for a ceremonial post," he said.

Biden said he would like to remain chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee if he does not win the Democratic nomination, saying that position would allow him to make "a much greater contributor to the security of the country."

1. That's another astute statement by Biden. Clark would bring completely diff. skills...
It's hard to have an active first lady and an active vice-prez. Ask Bubba about balancing that act!

2. That is why Joe Biden
needs to be the nominee and Hillary can be the VP.

4. Welcome to DU!
I don't think Hillary would ever take the VP slot. She's already played that role for eight years. Obama would be a reasonable choice. He is younger and it would clear the path for a presidential run in eight years.

11. Yes he was
I'm not dismissing his role as VP, but clearly Hillary was very influential in the White House. I can't see her taking a backseat to a future president and I can't blame her.

10. Excuse me?
Please don't make light of our elected officials. Al Gore was the VP for 8 years. Hillary was the WIFE of the President.

No wonder so many people have her confused for someone "with experience" if these are the talking points...

wanting to give that up.

6. He can do more in his current position than he could do
as VP. Biden in a Clinton White House would be a total waste of his experience and skills.

7. The "dominant:" in the article's headline is a bit misleading and inflammatory -
But beyond that, Biden has an excellent point. That wouldn't be a good fit at all. If Hillary gets the nom, I seriously don't think she'd offer the VP to Biden.

8. Yeah, that's CNN's headline
They know anything "Bill" related will attract attention, which is okay. It drew attention to Biden.

13. I know - and I reacted to it like "oh, no, did Biden say Bill was too domineering?"
Maybe it's just me being over sensitive as a Biden supporter, but I don't think it represented what Biden actually said. And many people read only the headlines and make judgments from that.

I'll take a deep breath.

15. People who just read headlines
aren't very informed voters, if they vote at all. There will be more misleading headlines, we can't avoid the MSM's twist on politics.

16. No kidding, Joe!
Being Hillary's vice president is a nothing job.

King Tut's remains would be a better choice.

18. Good! I wouldn't want him to be her VP. Or anyone's for that matter.
Biden has too much experience and knowledge to play second string.

He would be much better off as the chairman of the SFRC.

24. Except the VanityFair article made clear that being VP to Clinton wasn't at all
what many of us had been led to believe all those years.

We were told by Dem pundit class that Gore distanced himself from Clinton and THAT was why he lost. The truth turned out to be Gore getting stabbed in the back many times and an unsecured election process.

22. This is good news
I don't want him to be Hillary's VP. He's right about being overshadowed by Bill. I don't even think Secy of State would be a good thing for him.

I want him to be President or stay on the Foreign Relations committee.
