Craig Crawford’s Trail Mix: Winnowing the Field without the Voters
By Craig Crawford, CQ Staff

Silly season is over. Presidential candidates with no viable chance of winning the White House are finally getting shunned.

Democrats are leading the way when it comes to not waiting for the voters to winnow the field. Last week, their party’s number one 2008 gadfly, former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel , was excluded from a debate. This weekend it appears that Iowa Democrats will be adding Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio to the unwelcome list, making a point of not inviting him or Gravel to the party’s Jefferson-Jackson dinner in Des Moines that the six other Democratic contenders are expected to attend.

2. I seriously think that Dennis should maybe change and run as an Independant.....
I think he would have tons of support and be a very electable candidate as an Independant....

3. Kucinich should be able to speak at the event
Is there a press release about this? I looked and found nothing.

I wonder why Kucinich doesn't have boots on the ground though in Iowa. Why is that? I've been to various towns in Eastern Iowa and haven't seen anything. There was a Kucinich table at the Farmers Market in Madison a couple times, so I know it's possible.

4. I may be wrong but I've heard that he doesn't have a single office in Iowa
He has basically no campaign presence there.

5. He's had nine campaign events in Iowa
I had to go to view source as my Mac can't read WaPost's website for candidate info
