It is obvious that we cannot override a Presidential veto - not in the House not in the Senate.
But it is also clear that this administration and this new AG are on its last leg.
So instead of "standing on principles" and continue to send Bush the same bills that he vetoes, instead of spending time on impeachment, we need to show that we are not petulant children but are grownups who see our roles - that is, our representatives' roles - as governing the country with wisdom and with an outlook beyond single details.
Yes, waterboarding is torture but, as reported, it was used only a couple of times and none since 2003.
Back in 1995 Newt Gingrich was behaving like a petulant kid, shut down the government, declared that Clinton was irrelevant and Clinton easily won in 1996.
Most voters want a government that works. Most voters do not care about the petty fights but want to know that our representatives attend to the issues that are important to them - heating bill, jobs, education, health care, secure retirement. Most voters will see impeachment proceedings as a waste of time, as almost a dereliction of duty to attend to the important things.
So let's show the voters that we are responsible adults that should be given even more votes in 2008. That we are wise and mature to realize that some programs simply cannot be done under this administration and that we are doing the best we can with the cards that we have.
After all, all the Presidential candidates run on the idea that they can reach across the isle and get things done. So for our representatives to just dig in their heels and to insist on clearly partisan politics, including impeachment, cannot endear our party to the voters.
OK, start flaming.
