His hatred of Hillary is simply too excessive to be normal.

3. HA!
Silly laugh syndrome.

I actually think he doesn't realize how biased he is. He's kind of clueless in a way.

I bet there are a lot of other men out there like him. Maybe they're threatened by her?
Who knows?

He tends to get obsessed with the stupid "horserace" stuff in politics anyway. I guess he represents the
kind of people who pay WAY too much attention to pop culture and over-analyze every little aspect of
the campaign.

10. All of a sudden he loves Obama and Edwards
...which is of course a strategy to sink Hillary. He doesn't genuinely feel sympathy for them.

MATTHEWS (11/5/07): Welcome back to Hardball. That was, of course, Barack Obama himself on Saturday Night Live this weekend. Get the message? Hillary is a political animal, willing to do anything to win. That’s his message.

Here is Obama bamming it home in South Carolina, as he attacks Clinton-style politics.

OBAMA (videotape): As we saw—as we saw in the debate last week, it encourages vague, calculated answers to suit the politics of the moment, instead of clear, consistent principles about how you would lead America. It teaches you that you can promise progress for everyday people, while striking a bargain with the very special interests who crowd them out.

MATTHEWS: Edwards is hitting the same point in this brilliant ad with his wonderful waltz music.

(Begin videotape, Edwards campaign ad)

13. Punditus Herdsyndromius
The tendancy of political analysts with their own TV shows to follow the Washington conventional wisdom even when deep down they know that it's crap.

The syndrome is punctuated by such symptoms of swooning hyperventilation over well presented political theater (i.e. cod-piece wearing presidents on aircraft carriers) despite said pundit's personal misgivings about the war. Persons effected by this disorder express great admiration for the style of political performances (e.g. a candidate who can deftly switch the subject in order to avoid answering a troubling question) while being blind to the substance of what is being said.

Treatment consists of isolation from the source of dislocation from Reality. i.e. Washington DC and immersion in an environment which will force said pundit to deal with the problems of real people e.g. working for three months as a bartender in a working class neighborhood in, say, Detroit.

This treatment has never been tested. To date no Washington pundit has been willing to face the horror of isolation from the center of power and facing the realities that Washinton fantasies produce.
