Well, I suppose I'm just about willing to decide my support now.
No drama, no fuss. It's Biden.

Hillary? She doesn't deserve three-quarters of what she gets here. She's a decent Senator, and certainly not the antichrist she's made out to be by her most frothy detractors. On the other hand, I personally find her deeply unappealing. She comes off as phony to me, but whatever. I'll end up supporting her in the General if she wins the primary, but not enthusiastically.

Obama? He has a sharp mind and a firm grasp of the issues. He'd be a great President. But at the same time, he's a cool intellectual; while he's charismatic, he's not a firebrand by any measure. When he tries to go on the attack, it seems reserved. I'm not sure he'll be able to marshal public opinion to force legislation through. I'd still happily support him in the General.

Edwards? I've liked him for a while, and he was my sort-of candidate until recently. But frankly, he's starting to wear on my nerves a bit. His attacks on Clinton are somewhat hypocritical; it's surprising that he of all people--he, Mr. New Democrat himself--would attack her for playing the centrist-politics game. I like some of his ideas. I think he's got the best health care plan of the non-Kuciniches. But I can't make myself like him.

Kucinich? Great guy. Tireless leader on issues. Fearless advocate for the public good. Firecracker on stage. Couldn't put together a majority for a vote if his life depended on it.

Richardson? He's got a fantastic resume; he's perhaps the most-qualified man to be President in the nation. He's also run a terrible campaign, imploded in the debates, and the only coverage he's been able to command is regarding his strings of embarrassing gaffes. He was my first choice months ago. Now I hope he can get the VP slot and better coaches.

Dodd? A proud northeast liberal senator. A good man. While he has his highlights, he's kind of boring. We tried that story in '04, and couldn't pull it off against a retarded monkey and a Dark Lord of the Sith.

Gravel? Next.

So we come to Biden. He's smart, competent, and qualified. He's a foreign-policy expert. He has a history of bipartisanship--and unlike, say, the Liebermans of the word, a history of credible bipartisanship. In the debates, he's proven an ability to carry the stage; he's consistently had very strong performances despite his moderator-imposed time handicap. And his "noun-verb-9/11" bit showed he knows how to control the soundbite.

Do I think he's going to win? No, probably not. But I don't see any reason why I should embrace the "inevitable" a minute before I have to. And until Hillary's got the delegates locked up, Biden's my choice.

1. Biden's leading the pack for me because of his strenght and knowledge of
what is at stake in the world.

The situation stateside is bad, but if we keep making enemies, it sure as hell won't improve.

But, more importantly, I'm glad the "Hal" avatar is gone. It always kind of creeped me out. I could always hear Hal's calm voice reading your post.:hi:

3. I do like
Biden's expertise on foreign relations. That is a huge plus factor
with the status of world affairs being what they are at this point in
time.

7. It takes a while to come around to Biden. I did, but he seems to get endorsements from hold-outs
I waited and waited and waited for someone to come into the race who charged me up. Biden is a considered choice for me. He's also the candidate who'll do the best in the general election. But he's definitely a low-risk choice.

8. Very well thought out. I gave this a recommend.
I am impressed with Biden. He would be a real thorn in the side of Rudie. I like Biden's strong environmental record. I am also comfortable with him as a "red state" kind of candidate.

Hillary is my second choice. I like the members of her foreign policy team. They are smart.

I think success in foreign policy will effect what happens with domestic policy. It is so often tied together.

domestic problems we face now are Iraq, Iran and Pakistan.

13. Fair post
I'm an Obama supporter right now and I agree with most of what you said about him. He's definitely more of an intellectual than a firebrand. That appeals to me personally, but probably will hurt him in the long run. I think Biden would be a good President, but he's just too much of a moderate for my tastes in a primary. But I would gladly support in the General election if he makes it.

17. I'm for Joe!
even though his candidacy (along with Dodd's and DK's campaigns)are being somewhat short-changed by the media's focus with the top 3 (especially during debates)I'm starting to think that because his answers are more sensible, straight forward and substanitive.....it's a good thing.
It seems to me atleast that more people are becoming more favorably aware of Joe....and that's a good thing too.

I can't get by Joe's BK Bill sponsorship and vote, but I suspect he'll do way better in Iowa tan folks imagine at this point. Remember 2 months out in 04 Kerry was at 5% and being called DOA

You assessments of the candidates were fair and reasonable, without being derogatory. I'm sure there may be some who might disagree, however.

I'm not about to embrace the "inevitable" either.

Come and join the "Bidenites" at the Biden Group on DU!

Also go sign the petition at:http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/Equal-Time-for-Candidates.

All second tier candidates ban together and sign this petition. It will be forwarded to CNN before the debate; at least that is the plan.

29. I'm glad you've made a choice.
I can't seem to get there - none of the candidate either "do" anything for me or can, you know, win a general election (IMHO).

Unlike most on this board, I find the current crop of candidate particularly lacking this time around, which is sad since there is so much Republican malaise.

Sigh... I'm leaning toward just voting for Dennis Kucinich because I like his ideas for the working class and health care best, but I know he'd never win a general election. :(

33. But DK just did put together a majority!
He just got the House to vote to consider impeaching Cheney by sending the motion to Conyers rather than tabling it.

This could really catapult DK into the spotlight. Leading by actually doing something--against the so called Dem leadership. Keep an eye on DK.
