Edwards can not be defined by his detractors.....he will prevail.

I do not have the wherewithal to go to the mat with the vitriol put forth by the anti-Edwards detractors.

They have done their best to paint him as something his is not.

I believe that it takes courage for Edwards to stay in "the game" and continue the fight that is keeping him in 3rd place. It is a testimony in this historic race, to his vision and progressive values.

He is a willow that will not bend and he has an "ear" for the voice of the voter and their concerns and views. The voters have inspired him to develop his platform based on what he witnesses on the campaign trail.

He has character and strength, and courage. It is beyond my understanding that his responsiveness and evolution are considered weakness rather than strength. Isn't it time we have a President who "gets it from the voters" instead of "telling the voters how they should think"......

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

1. Very good point. Agree that among his strengths is that he is
perceived as a good human in addition to the impressive legal victories over intractable corporate interests.

Issues drive many voters when they cast a vote for or against a candidate, but the polling does not always measure characterological strengths and how they are perceived.

I believe that's one of the reasons presidential races tend to tighten in the final months and weeks, as Iowa did last time, for instance, and the lead changed hands more than once.

We're seeing some of that shifting and jumbling going on right now, likely based in part on the characterological strengths that the polling just doesn't completely address.

And in that set of criteria, John Edwards is very much in the hunt, as you say.
