unless it's a vote where their vote could actually make a difference in the outcome on a critical issue. It's more important now that they campaign. Voters in key states need to see the candidates in person, and the more time they all have to campaign and reach the people the better.

1. Then maybe they should all resign
Then they can campaign full time and let the repugs run things like they are doing anyway.

6. Agreed. Voting comes with the job for U.S. Senator.
If they cannot be available they should resign their seat.

5. If the vote is close enough where it would of made a difference, then I agree with you.

A lot of these votes the outcome is known before the voting because most have already made their positions known.

11. Yes, and instead of trying to convince other Senators to their position...
those running for president should not be bothered to vote at all. They should step aside and resign their seats if they are not willing to fulfill the requirement of their jobs. Doesn't seem that hard to understand.

14. Not voting will go against them in the media
No campaigning is more important that tonights vote on Mukasey. Principals still count. Why was the vote held late this evening? I again feel like a mushroom, kept in the dark and fed shit.

4. I have mixed feelings about that and give them the benefit of doubt too.
That doesn't mean I know for sure whether or not they use it as a reason not to vote.

8. Yes, the repugs won't have a field day with this...
no one expects U.S. Senators to vote. They are there for a little window dressing. Everyone knows that voting is just something that gets in the way of the official duties of a Senator. Why sully themselves voting when they could be shooting some photo-ops kissing babies etc.?

10. Prioritizing matters during an election cycle.

They know in advance how votes are going to go down, and there is no point running back to vote on something when that extra vote makes no difference. They are running for president, for crissakes, not organizing a bake sale.

12. They are also U.S. Senators...if they fail to do their jobs as Senators...
what makes anyone believe they will take the office of the Presidency, seriously?

15. Especially when Leahy stated things so eloquently...
Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 01:01 AM by adsosletter
and framed the issues so straightforwardly...I wanted to puke when my own lovely senator (Feinstein) got up and, basically, said her vote was one of expediency...

actually, I think I will... :puke:
