Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 09:18 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
plain and simple. Why should we be dependent on foreign oil? Why haven't we put ourselves in a position long ago to not have to fight wars for oil? When you ask this question of Right Wingers they say that it's because Liberal tree huggers have prevented drilling in Anwar and building nuclear facilites - but why do they pretend those were/are the only 2 options?

Why don't we all have solar panels on our houses in areas where they would work? Why don't we have individual wind turbines in areas where they would work? Why haven't we subsidized switchgrass as much or more than corn? Why haven't we built mass transit systems? We are so far behind the rest of the world it's just pathetic.

4. kick for evening discussion.
I think this is the most promising way to frame this topic for those who don't get it on its own merits.
