BREAKING: Gov. Ted Strickland of Ohio Endorses Hillary Clinton
Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 12:06 PM by wyldwolf
Hillary Clinton has scored the most coveted Democratic endorsement from arguably the most important swing state in the nation: Gov. Ted Strickland of Ohio.

Three sources with knowledge of the announcement say Strickland, the first-year governor with sky-high approval ratings, will endorse Clinton today. The campaign has scheduled a noon conference call.

Strickland is a pro-gun former Methodist minister who broke a 16-year Republican hold on the governorship last year. He won huge swaths of normally red rural Ohio, which analysts call key for a Democrat seeking the state's 20 crucial electoral votes.

Strickland's support could provide a counterpunch to Clinton's rivals' claims that she is too polarizing to win a general election. A new Ohio Poll from the University of Cincinnati today pegs the governor's approval rating at 69 percent, including 65 percent among Republicans and 68 percent among independents.

13. It would be, OK, now back to the voters
Kerry and Gore are probably the only big splashes left out there. And, even then, would people in Iowa, NH and SC even care?

20. I would disagree with that
Ted Kennedy would be a "big splash."

Jimmy Carter would be. If I wanted to think about it more, I could name more.

12. Actually, it is quite significant
Ohio is a good representation of the nation as a whole: purple, slightly more Dem than Reep, but due to Reep corruption that is not completely reflected in the makeup of the government. Only a MOR Dem could have become Governor.

The desired inference is, only a MOR Dem could become President. Pretty slick, I'd say.

Of course, I'm pushing DK, but it's still a nice piece of work on Strickland's and Clinton's parts.

18. Stickland has long considered to be on the Clinton VP short list, and Lee Fisher, the
Vice Gov. has a long time association with the Clinton's.

So it makes sense that Strickland would endorse.

25. wow, another bigshot for Clinton. That's quite a surprise.
when do us little people get to go through our charade of actually voting? My ears are still ringing from the pronouncements of yet another great and powerful Oz. Makes me wonder though if there's a man, or woman, behind a curtain making a bunch of back room deals.

33. right, because anybody who doesn't support Clinton
must be an ignorant idiot.

Is there any point to having a primary after the bigshots and money people have already told us who to vote for? Will there still be a race by Feb. 5th? Is there even one now?

37. Why say it
when you can imply it?

imply: "strongly suggest the truth or existence of (a thing not expressly asserted)"

See how that works?

and isn't she already a delegate to the National Convention?

That's what I love about Democracy. The illusion of choice.

Anyone who says Ohio isn't important hasn't been paying attention over the past decade.
