1. Right click and save a pic then
Go to www.tinypic.com and upload the image there. Copy the "message board" link they give you, and then copy and paste that link when you want to post the pic on DU.

17. storage sites give you permission to use the bandwidth...
the owners of most websites don't. Most even have rules against doing it. Where I grew up, that was called stealing. but... whatever.

3. Instructions for posting pics on DU.
Right click your mouse on the picture and a menu should come up with the last option being properties.

Click on properties, and copy the url listed for the picture.

Post the URL here and DU will post the picture.

4. Right click your mouse on top of the picture
Go to where it says 'properties' click on that.

Highlight the jpg or gif code, and right click 'copy'
and then hit 'ctrl + v' at the same time where you want to post it.

Does that make sense? Play around with it for awhile, you'll get it.

5. Here try this
Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 06:21 PM by Quixote1818

Right click on this picture. A little box will appear. Click on "properties". Then another little box will appear that says "Element Properties"

Look to where it says "Location" and you will see it's URL number. It will end with .jpg or .tif

Highlight that URL then paste it. The photo should appear after you post the message.

7. How to link in pictures without stealing bandwidth!
How to link in pictures without stealing bandwidth!
 This works for most pictures.

Say you have a picture you want to use in a posting;

http://foobar.com/JulieNewmar.jpg

Now, if you just link it to your LJ posting, you immediately
start stealing bandwidth from foobar.com.

This is simply not a nice thing to do as some websites pay
for every byte they transfer.

If you change that URL a little;

http://foobar.com.nyud.net:8090/JulieNewmar.jpg

It then uses a free public caching service. It gets fetched
ONCE from foobar.com, and they are not made bankrupt as each
of LJ's horny guys look at your Catwoman picture.

It helps to preview the posting before you hit post as this
gets the caching service to do the initial fetch of the
picture, which can be slow, before your posting appears to
the public. Sometimes you need to wait a few minutes and
re-preview it before everything will appear as it should, and
some web servers will not play ball with the cache, and this
is how you weed those out.

ENJOY!

Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 06:26 PM by Quixote1818

Didn't seem to work with the above image. I changed a couple of things. Does it have to be a certain spot in the URL?

8. Go to photobucket.com and open an account...
you can upload all the pics you'll ever need to your account, either from your computer or from other websites. You can then copy the link from the pics stored at photobucket, and paste them into your DU posts. That way, you're not stealing the bandwidth of someone else's website.

DU is pretty high traffic. If you simply post the URL of an image hosted at somebody else's site, you're going to cause them to use up alot of bandwidth, maybe more than they're expecting to use.

Be kind, and don't hotlink images. :hi:
