Biden second dem to apply for public financing -
Not sure how I feel about it, but if it helps him compete, I'm all for it.

1. Good for him
He has nothing to lose and perhaps this will allow him to stay a bit longer - if he pulls "an Edwards" in Iowa.

2. I'm so glad to hear it. I'd like for more people to give him a listen before
they make up their minds, and the only way he'll be able to get more exposure is with $$$.

3. Something I only heard one time,
Joe is the least wealthiest Senator in DC.

However, it may have even been Joe who said it; so it may have been a joke.
Anyone else ever hear that?

Just wondering.

4. It's for real - check it out
Bringing up the rear among presidential hopefuls is Democratic Senator Joseph Biden. His 1995 filing showed debts between $113,000 and $131,981, ranking him 99th in a 100-member Senate that included no fewer than 40 millionaires.

7. oh... joy...
There essentially went my support for him, effectively leaving HRC as my lone choice.

Taking public financing gives the RePuke slime machine upwards of 4-5 months to work unopposed. We can't afford that.

11. If this is true, you really were not true Biden anyway.
I say good for him, he supports public campaign financing so,he is just putting his mouth where his money is, so to speak. If it keeps him in
longer, it increases his chance.

12. Could you explain that to me? I don't understand the effects of accepting
public financing. How does this give the R's time to work unopposed?

Thanks for any enlightenment. One of the things I love most about DU is the continuing education! :hadbang:

8. It can't hurt at this point.
Joe barely exists in the polls, and any advantage it gives the Repukes is a risk he has to take.

10. The two candidates I like the most both have applied for public financing.
Agree that this is likely to enhance Biden's ability to compete.

It seems to be the right public gesture for a public servant asking support of the public.

Good for Joe Biden.

15. Hey there, gately. Thanks for the kind words, but in truth the
praise goes to DU and the people on it who are building a consensus respect for each other, for each other's candidates, and for the process itself. And of course we're all hoping the next president is on the blue team.

Among those on DU who are generating a lot of affirming energy and mutual respect are the Biden supporters. Many people have begun to notice that Biden's an adept in foreign affairs and is a damned likeable soul to boot, and not least, that he has attracted some very top-drawer supporters on DU, which includes yourself. He has less than 2 months to close a big gap in Iowa, but I'm still thinking he can do it.

It still feels to me that Edwards, Obama, and Biden will be very close together in the first three positions late on January 3rd, with Senator Clinton 4th.

The polling doesn't support this at the moment. But that's still how it feels to me.

And it must be thrilling to be politically active in Iowa with less than 2 months to go before that caucus vote. I'm kind of jealous of Iowa Democrats!
