Nobody cares about Hillary's tips, fundraising, plants or other such nonsense
The candidates are going to win on the issues. The other nonsense is just garbage to keep the 24/7 news cycle going for the political junkies. Nobody who matters gives a shit.

2. Um, nobody's won an election on the issues in my lifetime.
Presidents win the Presidency on the basis of emotional responses (and crap Supreme Court rulings). And if you think that "nobody who matters gives a shit" about the trivialities that drive campaigns today, you might want to remember what the requirements are to vote in the USA and rethink that position. And grow up, while you're at it.

5. You are so right
The clearest example was Ronald Reagan. His own strategist, Richard Wirthlin, realized that reagan "lost" on issues. Reagan got elected because people liked him and trusted him ( whether it was warranted or not isn't the point).

10. And don't forget Nixon, who lost...
to JFK largely because he didn't shave before the first televised debate in 1960.

(Issues? We don't need no steenking issues.)

3. If Hill can't answer an honest question on the issues, then you can understand why I feel she
fails on the issues.

4. What about Whitewater and the Rose Law firm billing records?
Huh? What about the murder of Vince Foster?

:boring:

Oh and while were at it, maybe we can rehash some more dirty laundry from the 1990's, like who REALLy attacked Nancy Kerrigan, and the trials of John and Lorena Bobbitt.

18. bush does it on a much larger scale.
bush repeatedly screens entire audiences to make sure each and every one is ultra-friendly, denying admission if not. A Hillary staffer at an open meeting suggested to a student that they bring up global warming.

On what planet are these equivalent?

11. Then why are you bringing them up?
I think there are sufficient threads on these things already. I'll agree with you on tips and plants - one is not true, the other pretty petty. But, fundraising can become a real problem, if any more shoes fall there. The problem is that corruption is a major issue. There have already been 2 fund raising issues of some significance, Hsu and the NYC Chinatown ones. The fact that this causes people to remember that they were accused of this in the 1990s too makes it more likely to be a problem. They need to be very careful on this.

12. you are 1/3 right
1. Tips, come on, even is she forgot and corrected it later it is no issue.
2. Fund raising - very questionable practices with Chinese investors - If Bush did the same would it bother you? I think yes.
3. Plants - Just flat out lame, a Bush tactic that is despised.

13. Will one of those issues sink Hillary's campaign, no, not individually.
However the cumulative effect of these things piling up, especially shit like her planted questions and such will certainly slow her down, perhaps fatally so.

16. Character matters. There has never been an election decided only on the "issues."
Edited on Sun Nov-11-07 12:56 AM by calteacherguy
There are issues of character, honesty, and trustworthiness.

Important issues.

25. I think those things matter to her enemies and people who don't like her
already. They like to build on anything they can find on her.

The people who support her are not interested in those minor stories, it's the bigger issue's that count, like saving the f--king country.

I know many here will disagree and that's their prerogative.

It's a good thing the media doesn't focus on stuff like Swiftboaters and such. Thank God for their solid, clear view on the issues and the time they spend on the complexities.
