1. Is the Plain Dealer poll reliable?
Edited on Sun Nov-11-07 08:02 AM by djohnson
I never heard of it. Maybe it has some legitimacy locally though.

3. I read that this morning.
Why is this poll bad news for not only Hillary supporters, but Democrats as well?

Yes, we all know that the Blame Dealer is a thinly-veiled right wing piece of fish wrap.

Yes, it's still over a year away until the next election.

Yes it's possible this poll may have been freeped. I mean, McCain? Thompson? COME on, PD readers. Are you all THAT fucking stupid? Don't answer that . .

But it's pretty bad when a Northeast Ohio-based poll has a former ineffective mayor as your front runner over Hillary, considered the Democratic front-runner by the MSM, by 12% (Obama is close behind with 56 and Edwards 52). I mean, weren't some Hillary supporters on here saying she'd turn Ohio? I think that's a joke; if she's our nominee, I don't see one 2004 red state she'd turn.

If the most democratic part of Ohio still isn't convinced the Democratic party has their shit together (I mean, why would they think that . . . with all of the blank checks The Failure Fuhrer keeps being given for his oil occupation and FISA) in that they would toss Mr 9-11 in office, something tells me the surrounding central (Franklin county excepted) and southern parts are going to be like this poll, only worse.

Gubernatorial and Senatorial wins aside, the Dems better get their asses to Ohio and FAST. Not just this part, either. Don't make the same mistake in 2004 and only come to the North. Go to Columbus and Cincinnati and Athens and Toledo.

4. She Leads In Florida, Missouri And Yes, Ohio
Edited on Sun Nov-11-07 09:07 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
But you're free to believe what you want... I have come to the belief that arguing with folks on this board is as futile as arguing with folks on sports message boards... You will never disabuse them of the belief that their favorite player is great and your favorite player sucks...

But for fuck's sake here's polls from Florida, Missouri, and Ohio:

6. Right. We should all trust virtual polls of 600 voters vs 6 million in reality.
Ever been to counties in Ohio south of Cuyahoga and Lorain? I have, because I drive through there on the way to DC sometimes.

"Clinton" isn't even a beloved name up here in the Northeast. It's downright HATED in those parts of the state.

I believe what I see and hear. Not polls. There are still more than a few people still sporting W04 stickers in the Northeast.

Hillary would not win this state. You can BANK on it. Edwards or Obama - they may have a chance. If Clinton is our candidate, forget it. The rurals hate her. HATE her. You need rural votes.

Why should we take the risk with so much at stake?

I even said this might be biased. I don't think the PD would do anything to help Democratic candidates; they're trained to think "Democrat" = "moonbat Loony left Kucinich freak". They endorsed DeWine, one of the worst and most insufferable Bewsh-supporting senators this state's ever had.

9. Gawd
I knew this was futile... Bites tongue for doing this to myself...You have made up your mind that Hillary Clinton is a poor candidate and no evidence to the contrary will make you think otherwise... Arguing with you would be as futile as trying to convince a fundamentalist Christian that Christ was not literally born to a virgin...

What virtual poll are you talking about?

I cited probability sample polls which folks have relied on to give them some idea of the electorate since George Gallup started polling folks in the nineteen thirties....

17. Gee, I'd sure like to know where I said I did that.
Surely you have to concede that a straw poll of 600 or so voters is hardly indicative of what a collective fickle electorate such as Ohio's thinks?

20. It's Not A Straw Poll... A Straw Poll Is Non Probaility Sample Poll
The polls I cited are probaility sample polls... This means every resident of Ohio has an equal chance of being questioned:

"There are two kinds of samples in the world. There are probability samples, and there are non-probability samples.”

With probability samples, when everybody has a known chance of being selected, you can make pretty valid inferences about the population from which it is drawn,” says Zukin. “

aren't these people paying attention to the consequences of 8 years of republican dictatorship, and they want more??!

If they haven't got it by now, all I can say is that anyone who votes for a Republican in the national elections is just plain stupid.

You would be wise to heed Mr. Hugh's assessment. Your exact thought was what everybody was
banking on in "04.....and look what happened.

We know our history here in Ohio......and we have learned the hard way.....over and over, that conventional wisdom does not work here...at all.

He only survived recall by 100 votes. Not a resounding endorsement. I like him in the legislative branch, but am glad he has no shot whatsoever at becoming President.

18. I unfortunately lived under him as mayor. High in drama. Low in accomplishments.
The gullible ones are the ones who think that he has more than a 0% chance of winning, or that voting for him is going to "send a message" or have any effect whatsoever on the Democratic candidate or his or her policies.

I'd still hold my nose for him or Hillary, my dead last picks for the nomination. But I sure wish all the people supporting fantasy candidates like Gravel and Kucinich would get behind someone who has a shot of keeping Hillary from the nomination.
