Joe Trippi rooting for Obama in Iowa... in public...
Edited on Mon Nov-12-07 11:28 AM by Katzenkavalier
How good was Barack Obama's speech at the Iowa Democratic Party Jefferson Jackson dinner Saturday night? Long after the event ended, as a scrum of giddy Obama staffers were all-but-forcibly exited from the bar of the Fort Des Moines Hotel, they struck up a spontaneous chorus of the campaign's newly debuted catchphrase: "Fired up!" Beat. "Ready to go!" Beat "Fired up!" Beat. "Ready to go!" This slightly manic release of tension and elation wasn't surprising. What was surprising was the person leading it: John Edwards campaign manager Joe Trippi, who punctuated each explosive slogan with a pumped fist.

1. Makes you wonder if the rumors that Trippi is an Obama plant are true.

2. I don't think he's a plant. I think Obama and Edwards
are ready to support each other in the case that things go bad for one of them.

4. Wonder if Trippi had the catchphrase trademarked and he gets a dollar
everytime it's cheered :puke:

The Obama frenzy reminds me of the Deaniacs (and Trippi did such a good job with Dean :eyes:). I hope he wasn't egging them on just to try to make them look like fools.

What a POS!

6. The "catchphrase" was coined by Greenwood, SC City Council member Edith Childs

9. I know the story - I've been to several Obama events (heck, I bet I can recite it by now)
I'm just NOT a fan of Joe Trippi. :hi:

5. Who knows what Trippi's up to
this time, but I seriously doubt that Obama would ever team up with Edwards.

7. Obama's too intelligent to fall for an obvious game
like this one. At least I hope so.

10. it may help Obama more than Edwards this go around.
I can't believe that Kucinich fell for it four years ago. Truly there were more precincts where K was not viable and his supporters went to JE. Although I believe Edwards has solid strength (and truly loyal supporters) There may be the potential of him not being viable in more areas than Obama. (Unless Obama isn't doing well in the rural counties - then it would be a coup for Edwards).

16. In a wider scope than Iowa
Obama has been seen as the competition to Hillary while Edwards has consistently polled half of Obama's numbers. Conflating the two candidates as the anti-Hillary (which is what is happening here) helps Edwards up to Obama's level and therefore weakens Obama's position. Like I said, I don't think Obama's this stupid.

22. I agree that the Obama camp isn't stupid
They had plenty of opportunity to hire Trippi early and didn't. Wonder how Edwards will contend with perhaps being put in the position that Kucinich was in 04. Not enough delegates on your own, so surrender them to the Obama campaign.

Pretty ironic.

26. Lots of ex-Dean staffers in the Obama organization
the Trippi mythos was not worth the price; we got burned before.

Trippi see writing on the wall and is already auditioning for another job when Edwards goes south?

Trippi is a plant from the Obama campaign?

Trippi just can't help himself?

I don't think he's a plant, he simply saw Edwards as someone desperate and malleable enough to sign onto the Trippi "fighting against the entire world" campaign. When that fails, I can see him trying to ingratiate himself into Obama's camp.

17. #4 Trippi is doing it for Edwards
I don't believe the plant story. They're trying to blur the two candidates to weaken Obama.

18. If that's the case, it's a stupid strategy. If anything
it makes it look like Edwards's camp doesn't believe in their candidate anymore.

20. You might want to consider that when you say things like this
"Obama and Edwards- The candidates of change."

I mean, I know who your candidate is, but this makes it look iffy

15. As I remember, Trippi was paid 3 million. Is that right?
I've often wondered how much he's getting from Edwards.

27. Don't forget how much $$ his consulting firm made w/all the ad buys
and direct mail and campaign 'do-dads' purchased through them. His firm received a percentage of all buys AND he was able to direct the purchases to businesses he was friendly with. Nothing like making a buck and having your buddy make one too  (Oh, was some guy running for President during all this???)

19. Most Obama supporters I know list Edwards as a 2nd choice, and vice versa. In the Iowa caucus, 2nd
choices matter.

This does not surprise me in the least.
