Congressman Barney Frank backs Clinton

US Representative Barney Frank is endorsing Hillary Clinton for president and will be an economic adviser to her campaign, it announced this afternoon.

"I have from the beginning of this campaign believed that Hillary Clinton was the candidate best qualified to serve as President," Frank said in a statement issued by the Clinton campaign. "I am convinced that once elected, the qualities she will bring to the job -- commitment, intellect, and political skills -- will make her an extremely effective leader in our effort to reverse the badly flawed course on which George Bush and past Republican Congresses have set this country."

I'm convinced that all the Democratic candidates would be competent Presidents, or they wouldn't be in the position that they are in. This is his choice, and it says far more about you that you're willing to throw him under a bus rather than simply acknowledge his opinion and move on.

4. Yah. I don't get it myself, but a lot of people I would call liberal--
like Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and a number of others have surprisingly endorsed Hillary. Now Barney Frank, whom nobody would mistake for Barney Fife. Like I said, I don't get it, except maybe the pros are playing Realpolitik, or maybe there's some dealing behind the scenes that we know nothing about, or maybe they're all climbing aboard a bobsled named Inevitable.

24. They all owe her something
Even the Republicans who have benefited greatly from her rockstar status while she's been in the Senate. She has been a very very good colleague, using her name recognition to help others in both parties.

These people are politicians. Often, its what happens off-camera that determines their actions. If you're looking to political ideology to figure out why Frank would support Hillary, then I think you are missing what's really going on in Washington.

49. The man has won reelection with mongo percents of the vote
for nearly two decades. He hardly needs Hillary's support to do so. He won't be Speaker of the House no matter what, and he knows that. He also likely won't run for Senate due to Kennedy and Kerry. So I fail to see why he would have any real problems.

69. I said "IF I wanted to bash"...
Edited on Wed Nov-14-07 02:38 AM by AntiFascist
I'm not the one to be worried about.

On edit: There seems to be a misunderstanding, let me try to clear it up. I'm merely pointing out the fact that there are certain things in Barney Frank's past which some group like, say, the Religious Right might choose to target in order to disrupt his political future. Perhaps this is being used as leverage against him to cause him to support the proper policies and people within his party, or maybe he wants to move up the ladder in Washington by supporting another candidate who has learned the proper ways to compromise with the Religious Right while saving face with the centrists. I'm not saying this, in itself, is necessarilly a bad thing and it is certainly understandable, I'm just pointing out some reasons why he may be choosing to support Hillary. No doubt he would deny this. There are too many apologists who try to explain away compromise as a necessary way of being politically effective.

55. Barney Frank is the same man that back stabbed the LGBT community on ENDA
For years the LGBT community remained united in the pursuit of ENDA protecting the entire community. In a backroom deal involving Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi, they unilaterally decided to drop the transgender from ENDA protection. The transgender are the LGBT people most at risk of violent death and abuse.

Thank you Barney, I hope you choke the next time you take a House page on a junket.
