McCain thinks ‘bitch’ inquiry is an ‘excellent question’

Obviously, presidential candidates aren’t responsible for comments made by their supporters. Candidates are, however, responsible for showing a little class. It’s apparently something that John McCain has forgotten.

At a campaign event in South Carolina, a McCain backer stood up to ask the senator, “How do we beat the bitch?”

In response, McCain said, “We have our differences with our Democratic rivals, but I believe in treating people with respect. It’s why I don’t refer to women as ‘bitches,’ even when I disagree with them. I’m sure all of us believe we can debate the serious issues of the day without name-calling and degrading language.”

No, no, I’m just kidding. He actually responded, “That’s an excellent question.”

2. HRC is not my #1, but that remark really pisses me off. How dare he?
If a Repug female were called that the pundits would be all over it. I hope Hillary comes back with a good and snarky reponse...She should ask Joe to help her out on that one...lol.

7. I think Hillary planted the question - that woman is a paid operative.
It will make a few million Repub women pissed off at the old white men in their party.

8. At first I thought it read "campaign staffer" and thought perhaps it was a private conversation
Which would still make the comment, and McCain's nonchalance about it, reprehensible. But then I read it again and realized that it was a supporter at a public campaign event!! :wow:

9. I think McCain is an idiot. But "That's an Excellent Question" is a device.
It's used to stall for time, like "Many others have asked me that in my travels across the nation..." or "I've heard that many people are concerned about this matter..."

He might have also responded in that fashion, and quite likely did, to 'rile' his YEEHAW base.

At the end of the line, the blogger's "Stay classy, John" says it all. The man is a buffoon.

The saddest thing of all, to my mind, is that a WOMAN asked the question.

For readers who can’t watch clips online, here’s a transcript:

UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN: How do we beat the bitch? (Laughter)

Mccain: May I give the translation? (Laughter) That’s an excellent question.

You might know that there was a poll yesterday — a Rasmussen poll, to identify it — that shows me three points ahead of Sen. Clinton is a head-to-head match-up. (Applause)

I respect Sen. Clinton; I respect anyone who gets the nomination of the Democrat Party….

11. I'm very disappointed in McCain!
John McCain and Hillary became quite close while working in the Armed Services Committee. On their first trip to Estonia they bonded over a vodka drinking contest (Hillary's idea). McCain was quoted as saying at the time that he was surprised how well she held her liquor and that she was just like "one of the boys". Ever since that trip to Estonia, they have traveled to Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and other countries. They have traveled so much together that it raised some eyebrows. In her office she has a photograph that he gave her and dedicated it to "his favorite traveling companion". She considers him a friend and he responds by allowing some harpy to call her a "bitch"???? John, I expected better from you!!!

10. If "presidential candidates aren't responsible for comments made by their supporters", then ...
why was Edwards roasted so soundly when two of his workers were found to have posted not-exactly-glowing remarks about Catholics PRIOR TO THEIR EMPLOYMENT BY Edwards???
