Is HRC really courting OH's Ted Strickland as a possible VP?
I visited a Cinci site that I sometimes read and found this:

Friday, November 09, 2007

The Des Moines Register's take

Clinton: Bill advises me whenever he can
By JENNIFER JACOBS
The Des Moines Register

Hillary Clinton said she is bringing the leader of a key swing state with her to Saturday's Jefferson Jackson Dinner in Des Moines.

Clinton wants Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, who endorsed her Friday, to experience "one of the great political events that we have in America," she told reporters on a conference call announcing the endorsement this morning.

She said she wants Strickland to see "9,000 active Democrats being whipped up to get ready for the caucuses on Jan. 3."

-snip

Clinton pointed out that Strickland is a popular in Ohio. His approval rating was 69 percent during an Ohio Poll in May. Among Democratic voters, 75 percent like the governor's performance; 65 percent of Republican voters agreed.

Is this an attempt to sway Ohioans to vote for her in the primary in hopes of getting swing state Ohio votes in the primary? I've read Wes Clark supporters say he has her backing. If this is using his name, then it's a dirty trick to get votes. He ran against Ken Blackwell so getting a 60% vote isn't exactly outstanding. He wasn't that prominent during his tenure in congress. Just wondering.

1. Hope she's not promising him anything...
It would be terribly rude to have to take it all back when she loses the primaries.

Perceived inevitability does not trump a voting democracy.

2. Oh god I hope not.
The question may be,is this an attempt by the Clinton/Bush family to appease Ohio voters who have had their prez election stolen two times in a row? Please say it isn't so.

7. I don't dislike him. I understand that he is a very good man, but until he ran
for governor I had never heard of him. He attempts to get things done here in OH but we have a totally R controlled legislature.

I would think that she is from the north, a southerner would be more likely. Also, since she has never served, a military background would be wanted.

I was surprised to read this and as many here know I am very suspicious of HRC motives. I would hate the good people of my state to get hoodwinked into voting for her thinking that a VP will bring back opportunity to our state, if she has no intention.

I didn't vote for him but only because he would not sign a "will not concede" agreement and Blackwell was in charge of the vote (as SOS) as well as running against him. Bob Fitrakis ran as a green. Since he ran, he could contest the election should any shenanigans occur, and the Dem's did a quick concession despite problems like we saw in '04. It wasn't close, but we didn't trust Blackwell.

14. Would he keep her from being shot or impeached?
Really, I begin to think that's the only reasonable consideration when choosing a veep.

8. He is fine.
Him being influenced by her does not do anything for me. Ohio needs leadership right here at home and it would not be a good time to lose what leadership we have. We are still paying off Blackwells fines and penalties, Taft should have gone to jail and the economy is in the 'crapper' here...that's it in a nutshell. Peace, kim

4. Have you seen his poll numbers in Ohio? They are impressive.
But to the point of your thread, how you got that she is picking him as a VP is beyond me.

20. Theres an old saying,
no balls no glory, are you suggesting the Democratic party doesn't have the balls to counter the Republican party tit for tat to show them how such things will backfire in the long run?

Uh, never mind, Nancy has already answered for you.

By the way, hows Blackwell doing nowadays?

22. I would prefer the politicians read it first.
And if they are going to ignore it, as they always do, they do it to our benifit, not their own.

Oh, and if I say that you don't know what your talking about and instead of proving you don't know, just say that you proved it yourself, does that make me as smart as you? Maybe smart isn't the right word.

25. I hear ya,
you don't have to explain the paper work niceties to me, but when you find yourself getting your ass kicked by those who agreed to follow the law and did not, do you allow yourself to be vulnerable to the hypocrites because of principle?

Anything short of a full frontal attack on those irresponsible and corrupt organizations is at best lacking, at worst treason.

I fight fire with fire, and when the arsons are behind bars we can peaceably discuss the rule of law.

17. She'll court Vilsack until after the Iowa caucus, she'll court Richardson until he drops out and
endorses her, she'll court Strickland until after the Ohio primary, she'll court Bill Ritter until after the Colorado primary, she'll court Martin O'Malley until after the Maryland primary, she'll court Brian Schweitzer until after the Montana primary, she'll court Mike Easley until after the North Carolina primary, she'll court Brad Henry until after the Oklahoma primary, she'll court Phil Bredesen until after the Tennessee primary, and she'll court Tim Kaine until after the Virginia primary.

If she wins the nomination (which seems about 50%/50%), she's already decided to pick a white male Southerner who has an established record of fund raising and who appeals to independent male voters, moderate Republican men, and conservative male Democrats (by which I mean she'd pick Clark).
