Grassroots good times for Obama on a Tuesday Night
A group of us met at a local cafe and did some phone banking and data entry (using my friendly Cold Fusion database skills) and got a decent amount of Iowans who were willing to go to the local Obama HQ and wanted to caucus. All from a wide span agewise... some fantastic calls from people...

Some of the stories were interesting too. One of the people who did data entry talked about how canvassing in Iowa is going. She has been going there for three days a week...hardcore. She mentioned that some towns have been blanketed with Hillary yard signs and that in most cases, the yard signs were given to senior citizens who were willing to talk about Obama and in some cases take their Hillary sign off and replace it with an Obama yard sign.

She had also been to the JJ dinner last weekend and one of the reason she wasn't doing phone banking was due to the sign wars and the chanting at the dinner rally. The crowd was overwhelmingly for Obama. She mentioned that the Hillary supporters were using some kind of drums when they would cheer, but it sounded strangely militaristic. She is from Iowa by the way.

Doing the phone banking in public at a cafe makes for some interesting interactions and such. A couple women were sitting near me as I was calling and one asked who she was supporting. The other woman muttered almost dejectedly "oh, Hillary, I guess..." to where her friend's jaw dropped and said "Gad, you're kidding...right?". The other woman then laughed and both tapped each other's arms like it was a joke.

After a while, the one woman came over and asked what we were doing. I told we were Obama volunteers doing some grassroots stuff. She saw some of the merch we had on the table and asked if she could have a button and a bumpersticker. "Of course", I said, "give one to your friend". She gladly obliged. We invited them to see the debate at a local bar this Thursday. It should be a good crowd.

We have several vans leaving Milwaukee and Madison going to Iowa this weekend. It's getting quite interesting see the race unfold.

Gobama!

3. You must be getting excited for tomorrow

I must say that the graphic looks like it may have been done by an artist in Humboldt County...
