So McCain thinks Hillary is a Bitch and that's funny???

Maybe everybody else already saw this but I hadn't. McCain's at a rally or about to give a speech last night, apparently, and a woman yells out "So how are you going to beat the bitch?"

Everybody laughs, McCain included and then he says "That's an excellent question."

Now I'm not a Hillary Clinton supporter but this business of calling successful women "bitches" is wrong.

Barbara Bush did it to Geraldine Ferraro when she was on the ticket with Walter Mondale, though she tried to be cute about it saying she thought Ferraro was something that rhymes with rich, and later claiming she meant "witch." Riggghhhht. Light years later, it's still happening.

And who is this Mike Allen who was just on CNN laughing about it and telling the woman who's hosting the show, Kiran Chetry, that "everyone, whether Democrat or Republican has thought the same thing." "Who hasn't thought that?"

He did agree that McCain should have said "What are you talking about?" but he thought it was all "just a funny moment." He couldn't stop laughing, and pimping McCain for being a "straight talker." :eyes:

The host said Mike Allen was from politico.com, if I understood her correctly. I don't know the site; is it right wing or is this guy just an idiot or what?

Kiran Chetry did point out to him that some people would be offended by anyone calling a woman the B word but he seemed to think that would be silly. :grr:

I think all the Democratic candidates ought to issue statements condemning Republicans, and McCain in particular, for laughing about this.

McCain has daughters and a wife so he should have more respect for women and know better than to laugh when another United States Senator is called a "bitch."

As soon as I'm more awake, I'm writing to CNN to complain and say they shouldn't have that moron on again and should issue an apology, and then I'm writing to McCain and the head of the RNC. Women shouldn't have to put up with this shit in the 21st century.

1. I find it appalling.
But the MSM can over cover the "story" about a suggested question to an attendee of a Q&A session.

13. Yes, they can cover it and people can see McCain show his ass, again.

That is the upside of it. Why anyone supports him anymore is beyond me.

What bothered me even more than McCain being an idiot was this clown Mike Allen saying "it was just a funny thing" and "Everyone has thought that about Hillary Clinton.

I wished Kiran Chetry had taken him to task over it.

Did Olberman cover this last night?

I know. Believe it or not, I was getting irritated at his Bill O'Lielly stuff last night. KO seemed a bit off his game last night. I hope he returns to fine form tonight.

2. DU has no morale high ground on this issue
As I mentioned on here yesterday, I most defintely think McCain should have repudiated the comment by his supporter.

McCain is a sick man. He once said at a GOP fundraiser "Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Becuase Janet Reno is her father."

Now that being said, most DUers have no morale high ground to take McCain to task for standing there laughing while a supporter calls Sen Clinton a "b*tch."

She's been called everthing but a child of God here on DU. I've seen her called a whore on here.

5. DU is not running for POTUS
Although I agree with what you are saying, and I am tired of the slams on ALL candidates, DUers are not seeking high office. I don't particularly like Hillary as a candidate, but name calling like that for any of our candidates should be above us. Criticism is fine, and is welcome.

along the lines of "So, what kind of info did John McCain give his torturers, ha ha ha ...", the media would be quite respectful of the Dem?

10. Yes, 'bitch' is more acceptable than ever.
Derisive words about racial minorities and religions are less acceptable - that's good.

But derisive and vulgar terms for women have become more broadly accepted. That's bad.

12. I have not seen HRC called a bitch or a whore at DU and if you have,

you should have alerted on it. I would have.

Besides that, nobody at DU is running for president. John McCain is.

DU is also not a major cable television news channel, CNN is.

This is a message board where most people post anonymously and not everyone here is a Democrat, liberal, or progressive. There are freepers and other disruptors here.

Typical 'macaca' type behavior from this gang of 'values' voters. They disgust me more every day. Just saw Joey Scarborough going to read an op-ed, I think he said, about "The Insanity of Bush Haters" (paraphrasing). :puke:

turned on CNN about 6:30 to see if the world had blown up overnight -- pretty sad that we have to think that way but it's reality -- and couldn't believe the story. I have TiVo so I backed it up a couple of times to be sure I heard what I thought I heard.

What do we tell our children? That this is the way to behave? That it is all for fun? this from the same folks who have no problem going after rap music and the like.

The hypocrisy is so in your face that it should do more than insult citizens, they should be enraged and demand this kind of trash talking stops by those that not only claim to be leaders but claim to know better, the media journalists are not that much better, a definite misuse of the power they have.

How would he have reacted if someone had asked the same question and they were referring to his wife instead? Like Clinton or not, she is still a United States Senator, just like McCain is, and he should have stood up for his colleague.
I expect that kind of knuckle dragging crap from the unwashed repuke masses...I expect a little better from a United States Senator. IMO McCain should be reprimanded.

Edited on Wed Nov-14-07 05:43 PM by CBHagman
If ever there was a time to trot out "Do you speak that way in front of your wife/mother/daughter," now is it. Call him out on this.

McCain, it would be remembered, is the one who made the nasty joke that managed to insult the then-first lady, first daughter, attorney general, lesbians, AND women in general, all at one go. :grr: And we still cut the rotter some slack.

Call him on out this. Females make up more than half the country, and it's about time McCain was reminded of that.

35. What's worse
Being a bitch or being a sorry a** son of a bitch. No self-respecting woman gets her feelings hurt over such infantile name calling. The person who comes out looking the worst is McCain. Hillary or any woman could easily dismiss it by saying "It doesn't bother me when I consider the source". If women can't handle such an obvious insult then they shouldn't have public lives because this particular insult is innevitable and highly predictable.

41. The point is that a United States Senator should adhere to a higher standard

of decorum and not laugh when someone yells "How do we beat the bitch?"

The classy thing to do, the professional thing to do, would be to ignore it, certainly not to laugh and say "That's an excellent question."

The woman who yelled that should also have been removed from the audience.

What was he supposed to do? Seriously.

He subsequently referred to her as Senator Clinton and said he has the greatest respect for her.

I don't think it's reasonable to hold him accountable for what some chucklehead said.

What sticks out for me more is the GOP venom still so nasty and caustic towards all things Clinton.

39. He shouldn't have laughed and he should have ignored

the question, or shaken his head to show disapproval, and then given his speech as if it hadn't happened.

The fact that he laughed says he can't conceal his feelings, which a politician ought to be able to do. Not to mention that he should have learned that as a POW.

He turned his back to the audience when that snark bomb was launched, it was clearly pretty shocking, and he then very quickly established that he respects Senator Clinton and addressed her respectfully.

Thinking on his feet, I think all in all he handled it reasonably.
