Truckers for Hillary
I found this mildly amusing for some reason.

Hillary Clinton tops The Trucker poll for Democratic nominee

The Trucker News Services

11/12/2007

Hillary Clinton is the choice of truckers who vote in the recent poll on www.thetrucker.com.

Asked the question “Who would you nominate for the 2008 presidential Democratic candidate?” 40.42 percent of the respondents list Ms. Clinton.

John Edwards received 36.25 percent and Barack Obama received 23.33 percent.

Clinton, Edwards and Obama were listed as choices because they are considered the most viable Democratic candidates according to national polls.

An opportunity to express your choice of Republication candidates will be the poll next week.

1. Interesting typo - "Republication"
Looks like spell check did a number on their article.

5. Not quite what I would have thought.
Though, I must admit that I hadn't ever considered which candidate would appeal most to truckers before! :)

7. Agreed. The results don't exactly fit the stereotypes.
It's a good example of why stereotypes are a poor indicator of possible performance. John Edwards certainly isn't the stereotypical trucker guy, yet he's within a couple points of the lead in the poll. A poll that was won by a woman no less, albeit a woman many consider to be pretty "tough". :)

:)

I agree, though - Rudy would seem to be the most-likely choice. Maybe they'll surprise us and take Fred, with Mitt four points behind.

11. Not surprising. I chat daily with men who work in the trades -
plumbers, electricians, hvac, etc. Most are vets. They all hate Bush and every one of them is for Hillary.

I asked the man I am closest too if the guys all eat breakfast together and discuss politics. He rattled off three local restaurants where most of them eat breakfast or lunch and indicated they talk about women and politics daily. His next comment - "Time to give a woman a chance - she can't fuck it up anymore than all of the men have and Hillary is a damn smart woman". I then asked him if he knew anything about her positions and how they may differ from the other candidates. His response - "It doesn't really matter - I trust her to do something about the war and health insurance". He also said something like - If she can put up with Bill she can sure take care of the country. The thing is, they respect her.

On the other hand, I also speak with several attorneys and accountants on a regular basis. None of them seem to be paying any attention to the primaries.
