Major Political Mind Field Being Prepared for Congressional Dems...
Just read a piece at Crooks and Liars asking if the Dems are really getting ready to stand tall on Iraq War funding and withdrawal.

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/11/20/david-obey-taking-a-stand/

Now, here is the sucker punch heading our way: look around the news, there are tons of stories coming out of Iraq about how all sorts of promising things are happening right now. So can everyone else predict what is coming?

How about a right wing noise machine claiming, "Just as we are starting to signs of winning this war, the Dems defund it, refuse to support our troops and cause the war in Iraq to be lost."

I can see it coming.

1. The Right already accuse DEMS of being against the war-everyone else is tired of them being for it.

3. I saw that a few weeks ago....
which is what Bush has been squaking about for weeks. But Pelosi said they will not let that happen. They will make sure the troops have what they need. They just want to know where the money went that he had already...which they haven't addressed...the dems say there should be more than enough....

4. You are so right, but why are Congressional Dems so inept about this..
I get so frustrated with how they are and you bring up an excellent point - why can't the Dems get across all of the waste, fraud and abuse of money to Iraq and how it actually does not support the troops?

How does 8 billion of missing cash help our troops?
How does the putrid meat served to our troops help them?

All of this.

beginning of this congressional term. They are inept. As it stands, the Democrats' outcry has led to the changes there, but the Republicans, not the Democrats, will get the credit. Rumsfeld is gone. Cheney stays. Bush gets credit for our having pressured him to change tactics in Iraq.

The truth is that the situation in Iraq is not better than it was. Our troops are engaging less with the Iraqis so the casualties are down. We could have engaged less a long time ago and not suffered the casualties we have suffered.

The Iraq War will not be the major issue one way or the other in the 2008 election. Democrats need to realize that.

7. "Just as we are starting to signs of winning this war"

No matter how this thing eventually turns out, they'll have a story about how a noble effort was sabotaged by traitors.

That's precisely the horse that 1930's German populism rode in on.
