2. an instant presto reaction to Michigan's SC upholding the Jan 15
date there. As predictable as the sun rising in the East.

4. It has nothing to do with the NH date
So unless other things change, FL will not get delegates.

14. Florida's primary is a "beauty contest" with no delegates awarded. Just bragging rights for winner.
The DNC has not assigned a hotel to the Florida delegation because Florida broke the primary rules. The Florida Democratic has filed suit against the DNC.

5. So Iowa is first in the nation, only they don't count, because they're a caucus
Good grief...took long enough, it did.

I think Iowa disenfranchises those who are away from the state on "the day." No ballots, and no absentee "stand ins" can show up for you--you essentially either have to "Be There, or Be Square."

7. Iowa was always going to be first
NH's law says they have to be the first "of its type" so it's the first Primary. Iowa is the first caucus.

12. I know. I was just being a bit obstreperous!
I realize those primaries/caucuses are a big chunk of the state GDP....but the hype is oftimes a bit silly, IMO.

17. Depends on the context of COUNTS, you see.
They don't count as FIRST, because it ain't a primary and NH insists on that perogative.

That was the CONTEXT of my post.

21. It all comes down to MONEY. Every four years, those 'early actors' like NH and Iowa
get a HUGE boost to their economies--hotels, restaurants, renting of offices, venues, temporary employees...it's big business for them.

22. And "...critics say that will HURT MITT!!!"

What will hurt Mitt is that people remember what a sucky fucking gov'nah he was!!!

I actually think they rammed this through pretty quick. I don't have a problem with it, really, but the point (made by the whining R, oh well) isn't unmerited. We probably would have reached the same conclusion anyway.

I hope they do a good job of publicizing the change--I'll have to tell my geezer pals not to make plans on that day; they were all geared up for March.

Massachusetts would join 22 other states holding primaries Feb. 5. A handful of lawmakers have objected to the speed with which the bill moved. There was no public hearing and very little debate. Secretary of State William Galvin just recently approached lawmakers about making the switch.

Bradley noted that several states "have been bouncing around over the last few months," changing primary and caucus dates.

"It was wise to wait until this point," he said.

House Minority Leader Bradley Jones, R-North Reading, said he supports the switch but advocated for more stability in future election cycles.

"I think ultimately we will regret as a nation having this elongated election schedule," Jones said.

Critics have said the switch could hurt Republican Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor....Changing the Massachusetts primary to the same day that states like New York, California and Missouri will be voting could pose a challenge to Romney, who may have to expend time and resources in Massachusetts to avoid an embarrassing loss in his home state.
