Of all the things I am thankful for, the Iraq War is not one of them.
I don't see the rationale for today being an obvious traditional day to honor the troops. God knows they would rather be somewhere else, so it's not like they're the picture of contentment.
And what's with all these stories today about amputee veterans who are thankful for their prosthetic limbs? I'm sure they are plenty glad to have prosthetic limbs versus nothing, but is Thanksgiving supposed to be a national day of greatly diminished expectations?
And, while on the subject... this hadn't hit me full force before, but I was watching one of those annual local news stories about a city councilman volunteering at a homeless shelter and it hit me that when Bush went on that trip to visit the troops in Iraq it was that same cliche Thanksgiving news story, except the homeless shelter was the US Military.
Sorry to harsh anyone's tryptophan high!
