New Poll: Biden Manages Toss-ups with Giuliani, Romney
Edited on Sat Nov-24-07 10:32 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
With Many Voters Abstaining, Biden Manages Toss-ups with Giuliani, Romney
Saturday, November 24, 2007

Democratic Senator Joe Biden isn't on the map of the Democratic nomination race. And almost 30% of likely voters nationwide don’t know enough to have an opinion of him. But a new Rasmussen Reports survey shows Biden within two points of the GOP national frontrunner and tied with the Republican leader in New Hampshire.

Former New York City Mayor “leads” Senator Biden 42% to 40% (see crosstabs). Biden’s support may have more to do with opinions of Giuliani than anything else—the 40% support he attracts matches the number saying they would definitely vote against Giuliani if he is on the ballot in 2008. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is tied with Biden at 39%. That’s the first time Rasmussen Reports has polled the Biden-Romney match-up.

In four previous surveys of the Biden-Giuliani match-up, Biden trailed the front-running Republican by double digits. In January Biden lagged Giuliani by 19 points, when the favorable rating of "America's Mayor" was still skyward. But even in August Biden was 16 points behind, 34% to 50%.

What may have changed is that voters and especially un-affiliated voters are paying more attention to the race and to the criticism borne by all top candidates. In each match-up, more than a tenth of all likely voters say they prefer a third alternative. Around 10% of Republicans and Democrats want Some Other Candidate; twice as many unaffiliated voters do. 2. Wow! A national poll that actually includes Joe Biden! And he's tied!
It's amazing that MSM waits until Joe Biden is actually tied with a Republican frontrunner before they even include him in their polling survey. AND THAT'S WITH 30% NOT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT HIM!

Thank you for posting this Kurt_and_Hunter. There's hope for us yet. It bodes extremely well for Sen. Biden that the more people become acquainted with him the more support he generates. We just have to find a way to make it so that the MSM can no longer afford to ignore him. We're getting there.

Biden isn't one of The Big Three. Next think you know the MSM will be talking about him...

7. I guess my post wasn't clear enough
:sarcasm:

I think any of the candiates who are up on the stage at the Debates should also be included in the MSM blather and in the polling. Hasn't been happening.

:hi:

10. Exactly what I've been saying all along...
he could beat any republican I think. Any of them...he is not polarizing, and he has support from republicans as well as Independents.

11. A virtual high 5 to that.
Joe Biden would not only be the candidate with the strongest credentials, but he would disarm the Republicans from their usual arsenal of weapons, leaving them hiding in a hole in the ground like Saddam. They will try to paint him as a left wing North Eastern liberal waffler who is weak on national security. Good luck.

23. Joe Biden would crush
ANY Republican, hands downs. In fact, I believe Republicans would love to vote for Joe Biden over any of the Republican candidates.

8. Just imagine what he could do with the name recognition.
He's doing it, mainly due to his own personal effort, e.g., debate performances, but he really need to start showing more traction being gained. Traction is obviously being gained; the MSM just has to start reporting on it. I'm almost afraid that if Biden started threatening Clinton's or Obama's lead that the MSM would torpedo his campaign, because a woman candidate or a black candidate would equal more sales or increased viewership, which would equal more revenue.

12. I have to think Biden would be very attractive to those who don't know anything about him.
Given his lack of name recognition, I think those are very good numbers indeed for Biden.

14. It Seems...
that there has been increased chatter concerning Biden for the last couple of weeks here on the DU. I, as well as others, were getting the impression that Biden was surging under the radar.

I completely agree and have felt for a long time that Biden would match up well against all the Republican candidates. With his debating skills, experience and intellect, I think he would hand the Republicans their asses. Seriously!

This is great news.

30% of people don't have an opinion of Biden, yet he is tied with Rudy.

Bidenites have always said that Biden would be the one to beat the GOP.:bounce: :woohoo: :applause:

22. He would have the ability to make Rudy look very foolish.
We will need someone like that.

I wonder if all those Independents in NH would actually vote Biden? I would think they might, after all is said and done.

18. Still undecided here...BUT

Witty, smart, continues to WORK at his job while campaigning, Has good presidential stature- What I mean by this is he actually LOOKS presidential, now before people get upset about this it really is important. He becomes the face of the United States if he's elected. He really is the only one that looks like Mr. President would be a coat he could wear comfortably and with assurance. It's not being shallow talking about looks, if that were the case I would be swooning over JE.

Very open and upfront without being hurtful. Shows that he's not above constantly learning.

Body language tells alot about someone, he's the only candidate out there besides DK that is comfortable in his/her own skin on the Dem side. When you watch him on video out and about with the general public, look at how he is with us. He genuinely cares about us, JE cares- As does DK...but Biden really "fits" instead of being a little out of place.

If I could choose any candidate to sit down with a cup of coffee and just shoot the breeze, I would love to have an afternoon with Biden and see what he comes up with.

Something else I've noticed that is really amazing about this man...The other candidates have a tendency to deflect conflicting points. He tends to absorb them for lack of a better word, saying something to the effect of "I respect that but here...allow me to educate you?" or "Good point, however have you looked at this and this?" Taking the conflicting views and making the person go "whoa...never thought of it like that"

People, that is a true diplomat.

add that to the fact that he is already tied to Rudy while being in single digits . . .
Biden is a winner!

20. I like Biden alot. If he is surging I am glad.
He seems very level headed, very smart and honest. I don't see him flipfloping. It would be interesting to see him in the front position and see how he takes the pressure.

25. About taking the pressure, nothing I can put my finger on, but my sense is that
he doesn't seem as DESPERATE to win as some of the others do at times. I think he's got a better perspective than most, so I think he'd handle the pressure well.

But then, I admit I think he pretty much does EVERYTHING well! :7

28. Didn't he say
that there are certain things worth losing a presidential bid over? I do not remember the context, but I liked that statement a lot.

Back on topic, these poll results, even taken with a grain of salt, are quite amazing. I have been infuriated over and over about pollster focusing only on the "top 3" when comparing candidates from the two parties. I hope these numbers are eye-openers to pollsters as well, and that they will change their ways.
