WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know that you all may already be aware of our big election landslide, but I still cant get the smile of my face. As they say- "winners are grinners". I've been working very hard for this win eg intense letter writing to various newspapers, letter boxing, manning election polling booths and scrutinizing the votes. It has all been well worth it.

The dominoes are falling and Bush with the rest of his cronies must see the writing on the wall.

We should now see integrity put back in to government. Howard's friendship with Bush played a major role in his downfall. Every time the two of them were seen together I'm sure many people were reminded of the illegal invasion of Iraq.

Now that the Aussies have done their bit, I'm going to sit back and watch the primaries. By the way, when do they actually start?

The primary fun starts first thing in January.

66. They won't be able to get away with it
They won't be able to get away with it this time. Poll numbers for the Republics are in the toilet.

I figure by Nov of next year everyone will be so sick of what they have done to our country, that the people will go to the polls in record numbers and throw the bums out.

Still, you folks in Oz have given hope. Good work.

27. Sit back...and watch the Republicans win.
Or get involved when a candidate that you didn't support ends up with the nomination, and she just continues the Bush agendas.

Or get involved now, if you're in a state where the primaries count (I'm not) and help support a candidate that may actually help our country to win the nomination.

As a Floridian, I have no choice in the primaries. You have more options than I do.

can find time to write to this site, they should also find time to write to the newspapers (email to as many as possible) and ring up talk-back radio. Go to your local Democrat branch and offer your services. If it wasnt for the unions and the many Labor supporters doing their bit, we may not have had this victory

84. I partly agree. If everyone were required to vote, the disillusioned
Rethugs would come out to avoid the fines, if for no other reason. However, past studies show that the people who don't vote tend to be lower income, singles, and other groups who would likely support Democrats over Republicans.

78. Now we can bring integrity back into politics
What about that Serbian man who was deported because he had committed a crime. He was a heroin addict. He migrated with his parents to Australia when he was 2 years old. Because he was not a naturalized Australian, that racist government deported him to Serbia where he knew nobody and couldn't speak the language. He has since been brought back, but the racist government would not give him an assurance that they wouldn't send him to Serbia again.

I read that Kevin Rudd is saying that he'll sign the Kyoto Treaty. That'll leave the US as the lone dissenter. However, the average American doesn't know and doesn't care about any of that.

Hopefully, in 2009, we'll be able to set ourselves on a similar path to the one that Australia just chose.

80. we have our name marked off from a register and then given a ballot paper
Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 01:59 AM by Aussie leftie
We take it to a booth where there is a pencil provided. When we have marked our ballot paper, we fold it up and place it in a box where an electoral commission employee is on guard. When the voting finishes at 6pm, the ballot boxes are emptied and the number of votes have to tally with however many names are marked off the register. As simple as that.

72.  Australia's Rudd tackles global warming
speaking of the Kyoto accord...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071126/ap_on_re_au_an/australia_election

SYDNEY, Australia - Australia's Prime Minister-elect Kevin Rudd took advice Sunday on how to ratify the Kyoto Protocol on cutting greenhouse gas emissions and fielded phone calls from world leaders — starting in on work the day after a sweeping election victory.

The emphatic victory for Rudd's Labor Party swings Australia toward the political left after almost 12 years of conservative rule and puts it at odds with key ally Washington on two crucial policy issues — Iraq and global warming.

After declaring victory late Saturday, Rudd attended church Sunday then held meetings with government officials about the mechanics of signing the Kyoto pact on global warming, an issue he made his top priority during the election campaign.

85. Thanks for this information!
I'll pass it on to my wife. She's doing a Climate Project presentation tomorrow for a six-grade class at our son's school. This will make presentation no. 13; then she has a presentation on Friday for a community college biology class (no. 14). Next month, she will present to a community college environmental science class (no. 15). When she took the training in January, the participants were suppose to do 10 presentations within a year. My wife will have done 15 and I believe she will do more next year!

When she made arrangements for the grade-school presentation tomorrow, the principal reminded her "to not get too political." It's amazing how many people still see climate change as a "political issue."

56. CONGRATS!
If the bushies win here in 2008, can I come live with you?

First Blair now Howard. That is a good trend.

Come on dems, now you can grow some gonads and get fulfill the demands and expectations that you were sent to Washington to fulfill. Are you listening Pelosi, Schumer, et al? The writing is on the wall. The regime will fall. (Don't be a water bearer for georgie, ok?)

60. How about these posts, 159 and 169 then, by Grey, on Guardian Talk?
http://politicstalk.guardian.co.uk/WebX/.775ed812?50@160.sco7eBNOGrK@

Hilarious comment of Grey's on the previous page about Howard not getting Diebold machines in time; just missing out by a hair's breadth.

61. Congratulations!!!
Our friends the "Aussies" have seen the light and that light leads left. I commend the electorate for seeing the way. I remember as recently as a year ago the pundits were all talking about a permanent Republican and center-right majority globally. That has clearly not played out as planned. Spain has and I suspect Britain will reject right-wing candidates. France's selection of a so-called moderate can hardly be called a win for GWB's brand of compassionate conservatism.

Again, congratulations and may the new PM begin by withdrawing the last of Australia's troops from the failed disaster that is Iraq.

63. CONGRATS.....
AS 2008 COMES TO A CLOSE, THE AVERAGE I.Q. IN CRAWFORD TEXAS IS GOING TO DROP A FEW POINTS...

WE CAN ONLY PRAY THAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE SO TIRED OF THIS SHIT THAT THEY BOUNCE ALL THE REPUBLICANS...

BUT AS YOU CAN SEE... THE GOP IS ALREADY TRYING AN END-RUN IN CALIFORNIA...
AND THEY HAVE THE ZOGBY POLL KICKING HILLARY...
AND THEY ARE ABOUT TO BEGIN THE SWIFTBOATING OF JOHN EDWARDS...

-----------------------KEEP UP THE PRESSURE AND WE CERTAINLY APPRECIATE ALL OF THE MORAL SUPPORT WE CAN GET FROM YOU...EVEN THAT CROC GUY

73. Congrats! We won too! We won big in 2006. HUGE in fact....sadly..
we've watched our election night joy dissolve into hand-wringing frustration and almost a complete collapse of leadership. We sent a strong message. Stop this war Now! We gave our leaders a clear mandate.

At least Kucinich hasn't taken Impeachment off the table..

and as I keep pointing out to my Liberal colleagues - the sky is yet to fall. Howard is still gone and I am still smiling. I really hope you guys in the States get the same euphoric feeling next year.
