In responding to a debate question.

I wonder how that will play with all those South Carolina "good old boys"...

2. I didn't see the debate but from your post that would be two strikes against Romney,
he will have upset many of the descendants of Confederate Veterans of which aproximately 300,000 gave their lives defending their homes and families from what they perceived as Northern aggression and also people who believe the First Amendment of the Constitution to be of paramount importance to our democratic republic.

3. Here's a summary of the issue - -
COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) – Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee criticized the Confederate flag, which happens to be hoisted on the Statehouse grounds in the early primary state of South Carolina.

"I know that everybody that hangs a flag like that in their room is not racist," Thompson said, acknowledging that others may be offended by the flag. But he also said he is "glad people have made the decision" to keep the Confederate flag out of public places.

However, Thompson held a campaign event earlier this month on the Statehouse grounds, just yards from where the Confederate flag still waves along Gervais Street in Columbia.

As for Romney, he said "that is not a flag I would recognize … that flag is frankly divisive and it shouldn't be shone."

Both candidates are front-runners in South Carolina. Both may have to answer questions about those comments next time they hit the state.

– CNN South Carolina Producer Peter Hamby

4. I wish the South could get past it, but I believe the easiest way
Edited on Wed Nov-28-07 10:50 PM by Uncle Joe
for that to happen is for all parties involved to quit giving the flag power by their misdirected hatred of a symbol which was used by a standing army. I believe hatred only serves to fuel more divisive hatred. I also believe the powers that be use these faults lines or divisions of the American People as a means to maintain power for their own self serving corrupt agenda.

I keep thinking of the fable of the bet between the Sun and Cold Wind as to who could convince a walking man to take his coat off. The wind blew with all it's might and the man only clinched his coat more closely to his body, when the Sun's turn came, it just let warm rays reach the man and in no time he took his coat off.

5. See Mitt squirm, squirm Mitt, squirm.
See Mitt sweat, sweat Mitt sweat.
See Mitt spin, spin Mitt spin.

Does this man actually believe in anything beside his own ambition.
