3. Used to be that there were liberals and conservatives in this country.
Edited on Wed Nov-28-07 11:15 PM by Kucinich4America
And while they certainly disagreed on issues, both wanted the best for the country.

That's what Dennis meant, and I agree with him 100%

The problem with these neocons and corporatists in BOTH parties is that they are neither Democrats or Republicans, but closer to FASCISTS. As evidenced by the destruction of the Constitution over the last 7 years, which is just as much the fault of the DLC suckups as it is the Chimp.

9. We aren't the arrogant ones to begin with.
I won't mention which candidate's supporters deserve that distinction, but we all know who she is. :)

That being said, I'm not quite sure why you would have alerted the above post. It doesn't appear to violate any of the rules.

18. Question for LoZoccolo
Does the Democratic Party need a left wing and a right wing, like an eagle?

Like you, I'll kick this for the morning crowd as well, just so they can see the quandary you put yourself in.

19. The Democratic Party is all left-wing.and maybe a little stub of a right wing.
The stub is not it's own wing.

Nader is the crazy guy on the end of the left wing threatening to jump off if the plane doesn't fly where he wants it to!

20. Sorry, but the leftwing is the US only resides in the progressive
caucus. The rest of the party is conservative when compared to the rest of western civilization.

22. I deal in reality, not perceptions.
I guess it depends on how one defines left. For me, left could never be caving in on granting powers to the executive branch that don't exist in the constitution, pre-emptive war policy for the purposes of global hegemony, any recognition of Milton Friedman as an economic absolute, and support of a security state with an infrastructure of crony capitalism.

23. How can one argue with someone who thinks the party is "all left-wing"?
If Nader is on the end of the left wing, where is Kucinich, in your mind?

Just out of curiosity: Where do you fit on the Democratic Party's "eagle"?

What kind of Democrat or Democratic policies represent the "stub of a right wing", in your opinion? (I'm trying to gauge what you think are considered right-wing views within the Democratic Party)

And, most importantly, you (probably deliberately) didn't really answer my original question: Do you think the Democratic Party should have both a left wing and a right wing? (You only said that it DOES, with a qualification).

26. The Dem party is all left-wing?
Not by the standards of many other countries in the world.

British moderate Conservatives like Macmillan and Heath would probably have been good Dems in the USA. I get the impression that there are very few even moderate socialists in American politics, unlike Europe for example.

I do agree that the Dems are well to the left of the true RW nuts (Republicans).

25. I'm not in favour of one-party states...
but no, I don't believe that any country is benefitted by its right wing. I would make a difference here between 'right wing' and 'conservative'. A country is helped in my view by having some people who don't believe in rapid change and are prepared to say "Whoa!" and put on the brakes at time. Even if this slows down good reforms, it will also be a safeguard against seriously bad ones. And I tend to think that left, liberal and moderate conservative (in the Europaean sense) are all in some sense on the same side against the real RW.

However, truly right-wing attitudes always have a negative impact IMO. People should have the right to express these attitudes, and run for office as right-wing candidates, but progressives should not be actively supporting or encouraging the RW.
