Another blah poll for Clinton
Another blah poll for Clinton in the Northwest

Categories: Voters, presidential race
A new survey from the University of Washington shows Republican Rudy Giuliani running even with Democrat Hillary Clinton in Washington State. Earlier this fall, another poll showed Giuliani and Clinton were evenly matched in Oregon - which, like Washington, has voted Democratic in every presidential race since 1988.

The new poll was also discouraging for Clinton because it showed her strongest Democratic rival, Barack Obama, running ahead of Giuliani in Washington, 50 percent to 42 percent. The big difference is that Obama does better among independents than does Clinton.

It is, of course, nearly a year away from the general election, so you can't make too much of these numbers. But it helps Obama make the case that he - and not Clinton - is the strongest candidate that the party can put up against the Republicans.

And there was one piece of good news in the poll for Clinton. It showed that, among Democratic voters, Clinton leads Obama, 44 percent to 29 percent. John Edwards is third with 16 percent. However, it's not necessarily predictive of what will happen in the Washington caucuses, which tend to attract only the most active Democrats.

It's sex scandal vs. magic underpants vs. the earth is 6000 years old vs. too tired to campaign vs. I'm not as sharp as I used to be vs I'm crazy.

Who is going to beat Giuliani in NY, NJ, CA, and FL? That's a lot of delegates right there, and he will likely take PA, TX, and OH too.

9. He may...
But it will cost more in terms of resources to defend them...New York, Connecticut, New Jersey etc...he runs about even and in some cases behind Guiliani...

The only red state that I have seen that Obama may flip is Nevada...based on a poll I saw a while back...
