CNN’s Campbell Brown Calls MoveOn.org "American Insurgents"
Following Wednesday night’s CNN/YouTube Republican debate, recent CNN arrival Campbell Brown hosted a special entitled Campaign Killers, which dealt with the negative nature of campaign advertising in American politics. Unfortunately, Brown decided to do some dirty and rather offensive campaigning herself, referring to MoveOn.org as “American Insurgents.”

More from Media Matters:

BROWN: General David Petraeus made his reputation taking on insurgents in Iraq. But when he came to Capitol Hill in September, he was confronted by American insurgents, a liberal anti-war group called MoveOn.org. MoveOn bought this full-page ad in The New York Times. It accused Petraeus of betraying us by cooking the books on progress in Iraq. Read on....

4. And people think it's over-reacting to be concerned about HR 1955
It took a couple of weeks for the original Patriot Act to be redirected to "domestic terrorists" and be used against environmentalists and animal rights activists. It wouldn't take that long for the Homieland Security Thought Police to go after domestic insurgents.

5. Brown's hubby gets Murdoch money
I always thought Campbell Brown should join up with Katie Couric and do a talk show about fluffy little animals and share their high school clique techniques...

As for being called "American insurgents", I would take that as a compliment...

folks at MoveOn are just civil-minded patriotic Americans.

7. Campbell Brown is just a whore for the Republican Party.
She does whatever she's told to do. She's not a journalist, she's not a reporter, she's not an anchor. She's a whore.

And when the GOP is through with her, they will toss her in the trash like a used condom with a hole in it. Just ask former Congresswoman Harris from Florida. You'll find her lying in an alley just off Election Fraud Avenue.

Aside from Olbermann there is nothing on NBC-especially the evening news and the Today Show- that is less than the normal corporate media

20. Maybe your a little out of touch
but MSNBC has made a strategic decision to counterbalance Fox and embrace a more progressive audience with more consistent programming.

but keep reinforcing your own arguments -- you are really making me feel welcome discussing the issue

She has called a perfectly legal nonviolent and peaceful political movement that is calling for an end to war "American insurgents".

Are you defending that comment as fair? Balanced?

23. Refering to MoveOn.org as "American Insurgents" is balanced to you?
Just because they correctly challenged Gen. Petraeus?

There wasn't a thing in that ad that was incorrect. And it wasn't accusatory, it was a question. It was a good ad. I hardly think it's proper to classify MoveOn.org in that manner.

You would never hear her refer to a right wing institute as "American Gestapo."

When we start hearing criticism of the right as frequently as we do the left, that will be a different story. But it's way out of balance right now, and has been for a considerable time.

25. well, hate to disagree with you.
Calling MoveOn.org "american insurgents" can be inflammatory and you can disagree or agree with it, but in the context of her piece. I believed it was balanced. She was, IMHO, much tougher on SWBT and other right wing groups. Indeed, she's in trouble with them this morning to:

http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowlDC/television/hillyer_citizens_united_threaten_legal_action_against_cnn_71953.asp

not the words 'right wing gestapo' exactly, but 'fringe militias' and 'dirty tricksters' is pretty good -- and quite frankly -- language that is directly balanced by the MoveOn.org comment.

Spokesperson for the uber corrupted CPA. She obviously has a vested interest in supporting this administration and their occupation of Iraq.

16. I dont understand
the linking of party affiliation and marriage. to me, they are not necessarily linked. there are obvious examples (scaife and his ex wife, carville and matalin, but I know of many more in my personal life -- particularly among military families where men are consumed by a fairly conservative culture and mission, and dependants who live on the outside are more progressive.

bottonline, are you trying to say that liberals and conservatives cant be married and have differences of opinion under the same roof? what kind of society are you advocating?

It's important for them to start spreading the meme that people who may disagree with the current administration are terrorists. That was they can be rounded up by Blackwater when the time is right and placed in the Halliburton camps that stand ready. -- Wanet
