1. They'll find he's got highway flares strapped to his chest
but the gun is real enough. I sincerely hope some good comes of this, that he tells us which radio/TV ranter inspired him to do this.

3. That's what I'm hoping, too
If it was one of the right wing hate mongers, maybe they will be forced to tone down their rhetoric.

5. Yeah. They just reported he told someone to watch the news today.
I don't remember who it was he told. Maybe his son?

6. As I suspected.
I hope he gets the care he needs instead of just a jail cell. Hillary has an opportunity here to make a very important statement by how she handles the situation.

16. I didn't say it was.
What statement Hillary makes publicly about the situation and the man will leave a lasting impression, though.

She can say something about advocacy and greater care for the mentally ill instead of incarceration. She can come out with a strong statement for health care and decent living conditions being a way to avert these types of desperate situations.

Sorry my used of the word "handle" was unclear. I know she has nothing to do with how the immediate event is managed.

However, Hillary certainly can have an influence on the aftermath by how she handles this situation in her own realm and what statements she makes, both publicly and privately.

18. Some may say that.
Others may applaud her.

Should what some people say stop her from doing the right thing or from being an advocate for principles she claims to believe in?

I, for one, will be watching closely.

20. That is the LAST thing she should do
Could you imagine? I support Hillary 100% but using a hostage situation as a political platform would be terrible.

21. Okay.
I disagree with you, but that's fine.

Making a progressive humanitarian statement is not the same thing as "using" a situation as a "political platform." It all depends on exactly what's said and how.

I think she'll be making a mistake if she says nothing, but that's just me.

22. I agree, she should say SOMETHING but
She should not try to tie the hostage situation into her political platform. That would be a kiss of death.

24. That'll be tricky.
Especially since the hostage situation is the reason for having to make a statement at all.

At any rate, it'll be interesting to see what she says and how she says it. :)

7. Besides being mentally ill
what's his problem? Why'd he do it? What statement is he trying to make?

10. Not necessarily trying to make a statement if he's mentally ill.
You may be looking for logic where none exists

The TV feed is being delayed, not a "live" feed. Too many people now with TIVO and VCR's capable of recording this, guess "they" learned from 9-11.
