let's stop the "iraqis need to take responsibility for themselves" meme
every time I hear that line, I want to scream (even when it comes out of the mouths of democrats)

the iraqis HAD responsibility for themselves before the thugs of bushco began an illegal, immoral and unjust war of occupation. they didn't ASK us to invade them, they didn't ASK us to take over the country, so let's stop using language that implies that the iraqi people are somehow shirking their responsibilities.

1. Isn't the alternative for us to stay "involved" for a while?

2. How dare they not recover faster after we destroy their entire infrastructure and government...
... after we pass The Bremmer Laws saying that only American corporations can get contracts to rebuild their country!

5. I think it is directed more at Iraqi POLITICIANS who fear taking control without
the US being there to back them. While it is understandable, that reluctance plays right into Bush's plans for a more permanent presence.

9. it seems to include all the iraqis. and the point is, the iraqis didn't invite us, so I am
wsick to death of the pols, or the media, etc, telling them what they SHOULD be doing, the benchmarks they are supposed to be meeting, etc.

"I think the 'surge' is working," the Democrat said in a videoconference from his Johnstown office, describing the president's decision to commit more than 20,000 additional combat troops this year. But the Iraqis "have got to take care of themselves."
