Everyone loves Obama! Whispers among Biden and Richardson camps to make him their second choice
At a crowded and noisy Star Bar on Ingersoll Avenue, where the Biden campaign staffers were sipping champagne - or harder stuff - and waiting for their candidate, his wife, and the Biden Family to arrive for a New Year's Eve informal gathering, Offthebus chatted with one of the Biden's national consultants who wanted to remain anonymous:

"A decision will be made tomorrow about who we'll encourage our supporters to stand behind if we aren't viable in a precinct. Right now, I'd guess Obama gets our support because we're more inline with his vision of foreign policy than any of the other candidates, and besides, we like him and how he's run his campaign."

Off-the-bus spoke with a national Obama staffer who confirmed, "We've heard that Richardson may also be telling his supporters to caucus for Barack if they aren't viable. Nothing definitive but there's a trend going on," she added with a smile. Ah, that's an understatement.

1. umm tomorrow was January 1st
Sounds like BS. Biden and Richardson will let the voters decide for themselves. To make an agreement lumps them in with Kucinich and makes them look like an also ran.

3. It says "a decision will be made tomorrow." Not "a decision will be announced
tomorrow." Perhaps they won't make a public announcement. In 2004, Kucinich didn't pre-announce his deal with Edwards.

6. It goes to show how important Iraq still is.
There's is this convention wisdom that says the surge "working" has made people more for the war, but people weren't against it because we were losing, they are against it because its wrong. This plays strongly into Obama's hands. Having Edwards compete with Hillary on health care also strengthens him, because I really do think Hillary has a better plan, but she's losing would be supporters to Edwards on that issue.

10. One thought - who would you want to be SoS or VP under?
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 08:30 PM by karynnj
between Obama and Clinton. In 2004, it was clear that HRC completed with Al Gore for things that could be done by a VP. In Gore's case, he was strong enough to still get some nice assignments. With BC, I think that he will likely be the de facto SoS - I doubt anyone could keep him out of things.

With Obama, they likely think that he will want and need some experienced people to help develop his policies. From a Biden POV, who would be more likely to turn to him on foreign policy.

12. Whispers? yeah right
this must be coming from the Obama camp.
What a ridiculous rumor to start.
I am really starting to not trust his advisers.

13. Obama and Biden differ on foreign policy. It won't happen. Richardson/Obama are more likely to
strike a deal than Obama and Biden.

14. Biden and Hillary
Joe Biden said in a recent CNN or MSNBC interview that if he doesn't win the nomination, it's Hillary's.

I strongly expect both Joe Biden and Bill Richardson to strike a deal with Hillary as Richardson wants to be Hillary's VP (Hillary even said that he'd make a great VP) and Biden wants to be a senior cabinet secretary.

No way do they go to Obama.

Don't read into this post who I support because you'd probably be wrong. I'm just going by what I've heard and seen in the media.

20. Dirty trick by Obama - No Deal With Richardson
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x3932998

Update:
"(Ed. note: For about ten minutes when this story was first published, it asserted that there was a mutual agreement between the Richardson and Obama campaigns to swap supporters in precincts where one was not viable. This, it turns out, resulted from a misunderstanding that has since been cleared up. There is no deal between the two campaigns; there is only a strategic decision -- one which makes complete sense -- on the part of the Richardson campaign about where to direct its supporters if their group is not viable in certain precincts.) "

Second Update:

Richardson Campaign Response (4.00 / 2)
Hi this is Joaquin with the Richardson Campaign and the rumor is false- there are no deals. These are typical last minute election shenanigans.
