Why the Blogosphere Went for Edwards

Perhaps because his wife is such an avid reader of blogs, Edwards' campaign tapped right into our zeitgeist. He came out with our insight front and center. You want Edwards' message? Here it is: 'Fuck David Broder, fuck Joe Klein, fuck Chris Matthews, fuck FOX News, fuck Tim Russert, fuck Mitch McConnell, fuck Big Oil, Big Pharma, and Big Defense. We don't need them. They won't negotiate in good faith. They're stacking the deck against us. And we can beat them by telling the truth and getting organized.' That's Edwards' message, and that is the message we have internalized both through our successes and our failures.

I have to say, I agree with the Poster's synopsis. It's not that long a post and it's well worth a perusal.

4. Is Obama planning on occupying Iraq indefinitely, sandnsea?
I said he was planning to leave tens of thousands of troops in Iraq indefinitely. You called me a liar -- that's "red-hot rhetoric," by the way. But he is planning that, and he says so on his own website. You still haven't retracted the accusation that I'm a liar. And you still don't know what your own candidate stands for.

11. Richardson will protect the embassy
Richardson will leave troops in the region. I proved you wrong and you scampered away and still won't admit it.

15. Maybe I was wrong about Richardson.
I don't follow his plans too closely. He's not a serious contender and I don't support him.

I said Barack Obama was planning to leave troops in Iraq indefinitely. You didn't just disagree, you CALLED ME A LIAR. And I was telling the truth.

Do you really think it's ethical to call people liars when they tell the truth?

12. Honestly, they don't
Her episode yesterday where she intentionally misrepresented Obama's health care plan is evidence enough of that.

7. "we can beat them by telling the truth and getting organized"
Two areas in which Obama has an obvious advantage over Edwards.

Thanks for the reminder.

10. The blogosphere...
behaved exactly like the Villagers they excoriate, in the matter of Edwards vs Obama: thrilled by someone who pandered to them, but had a tremendously (liberally?) flawed record when he actually had the power to do something; this, vs Obama, who virulently opposed the war from the beginning showing exceptional judgment, has led a completely progressive-compatible life, eschewing money and working for the poor and the disenfranchised etc.

And yet, because Elizabeth and John sweet-talked them and tough-talks in the campaign, they ignore his Senate neocon/DLC record. Mitt Romney, anyone?

I will be thrilled to bits if Obama wins and wins big, because it will be the right thing to happen and because these alleged gate-crashers can wake up and see what they have become: their own worst enemies and the image of their enemies.

14. The Netroots were definitely on fire for Dean last time.
I think Edwards is nice enough, but we'll see when he is put under the microscope for the next month. Can't forget that he ran for VP last time. Each candidate has had a surge moment before reason set in. This is Edwards turn.
