I'll be shocked if Obama wins
I honestly don't think Iowa will vote for him to be the winner. Edwards sure, Hillary perhaps. But Obama? No.

He has done poorly in campaigning IMHO. And he isn't a compelling enough candidate to win in Iowa.

Maybe I will have to eat crow but I doubt it.

15. 9 million dollars!
did he really spend 9 million dollars to win IOWA?

He must really want to win bad--I sorta hope he does well

but I think I'd feel worse if Edwards doesn't win

I mean, he's spent the last 2 years at it

25. Bingo, give the man the prize!!!!
Obama is a good speaker and has plenty of charisma, but I don't buy what he sells. I see a smooth operator who peddles lots of pies in the sky, but whose actual experience is as thin as a communion wafer.

If he hadn't been so overly ambitious, I would gladly have considered him in a few years. But no, the man can't pay his dues and learn to at least be a good senator before having designs on the brass ring. Being president of this country is too damn an important job to hand it to a neophyte. Sorry, but I don't think that he's qualified to be president in 08.

No.

She has done poorly in campaigning, in mosts opinion. And she isn't a compelling enough candidate to win in Iowa. She offers the past. They want the future.

That and she comes off as a robot, stealing slogans, planting questions, not apologizing HER war vote, and now the latest hypocritical shtick about being both the 'most experienced' and at the same time being a change agent. The Paki gaffe probably didn't help, either.

Well, at least it's been fun to watch.

16. I too agree HRC will have a narrow victory and all us HRC
supporters never believed the polls with her having a double digit lead and it would stand. Even if HRC places second or even third does not mean as much if say she came in third in a primary. Too many variables in Iowa but with the help of good weather will help all candidates but more so the HRC campaign.

Hey, there might be an * after obama's name if he happens to win. Why? Hard to know if a student is also registered in another state. There is no instant background check for this, and we all know obama is hoping for a large turnout of students....

The one thing HRC has done where obama and edwards haven't is the hrc campign is nationwide. Other then s.c. and maybe Illinois hrc is leading in all the feb 5th states from high single digits to double digits and these are I say bout right cause they have not changed even with obonga's lil surge. I still say HRC will have a majority of delegates by either the middle or the end of Feb.

17. I have to tell you....
I was undecided a couple of months ago, because I was still mourning because
Gore didn't jump in.

When I finally decided to research the candidates and hear them speak in Iowa,
I was completely blown away by Obama's organization and how devoted and hard-working
his supporters were, and are.

He has absolutely nailed it in Iowa. Edwards has as well.

Both of them have relentlessly criss-crossed the state, meeting with small groups
and holding town-hall-style meetings. These events are not exciting to the media
and they flew under the radar. However, both of these candidates were everywhere,
all of the time--talking one-on-one with voters and amassing very strong volunteer
bases.

Their organization has been unprecedented. Kerry had terrific organization in
Iowa, but both Obama and Edwards surpassed Kerry's efforts, by a long shot.

These guys have won over voters, one at a time. They've both got wonderful
messages and great plans, and they had the brains and the skills to know that
they had to make their cases by being honest and speaking directly with Iowans.

I was invited to an Obama house party in another neighborhood. I rec'd phone calls
and emails after the party and an Obama supporter visited me to discuss my concerns
and questions. Believe me, I had many. When I said that I was concerned mostly
about corporate corruption and the Constitution being shredded, I got a call from
Obama and he listened to me rant for 20 minutes.

His people followed up with me, but they weren't pushy.

I'm telling you--organization and leadership like this is what we need to beat
the Republicans in November. If Obama (and even Edwards) could generate such
profound inspiration in Iowa caucus goers and in volunteers---there's no telling what
could happen on the national stage.

There's no way they could steal this election. The Republicans wouldn't know what hit them.

Just my opinion and what I've experienced here in Iowa.

22. What an informative post!
Thanks for sharing it. I'm so impressed to hear of the organization and real attention paid.

I also grieved Gore, I was really hoping. Then I looked into the top 3 candidates much more closely...since I figured they'd be the only one left. I expected my preferences to be Clinton then Edwards then Obama.

I was wrong. It wasn't close. As unpopular as my choice is on blogs Obama became my easy choice the more I learned. I have even become enthusiastic, I did not expect that. So I am especially glad to hear of the great organization.
I want whoever wins to have the best.

I suspect Obama will do better than expected, high 30s. Clinton 23. Edwards in 2nd.

why can you not understand that obama gets independents? are you still under the assumption that "america's not ready for a black president" therefore we shouldnt have obama as the nominee? are we ready for a female president any more than a black president? hillary will surely lose if she is in the GE. we're suppose to believe hillary will beat the republicans because she's a "fighter." That is such bs, it boggles my mind. gah.
