2. Two things you can take from this.
1. His support among Iowa Dems may be slightly lower than this implies.
2. He has the highest appeal of any candidate among Iowa independents.

3. but they can declare a party
then vote for a democrat in the primary. in the general election they can vote for anyone in any party. we need the independents to vote democratic in the general election. we need every democratic senator we can get.

Obama's margin was wider because of non-Dem voters, including Independents and Republicans.
