Several Dem Primary Commonplaces that Belong in the Trashbin
By commonplace I mean an easy go-to argument, little sound bites that proliferate on this board endlessly and uncritically. They are stuipid and you make yourself sound stupid when you use them.

Let me be clear here: I am on record as not really caring who wins the Dem primary, since I think all of the candidates are 1) electable, 2) preferable to the alternative, and 3) strong on positive policy changes.

So, that said:

1) Hillary feels she is owed the nomination/ "Entitlement" - This is clearly bullshit. Ms. Clinton understands that political processes are contingent affairs, and she works damn hard to get her message across to voters of all kinds. It's a ridiculous and specious argument, and doesn't deserve the time of day. Ms. Clinton clearly believes in what she is doing, and believes it will help PEOPLE in these United States. She has worked hard her entire life to effect positive change in people's lives. To think otherwise is to be a partisan hack or credulous fool. Off to the scrap heap with this stupid argument.

2) Obama is all style and no substance - Total fucking nonsense. The guy is a great orator, and therefore falls into the easy critique of all great orators since antiquity. They are suspected of sophistry, and lack of substance, simply because they speak well. If you are making this critique, I strongly suggest that you look specifically at Mr. Obama's policies as they are set out in great detail on his web site, here http://www.barackobama.com/index.php I also strongly sugggest that you take that bullshit to the dumpster and place it in there, because that's where the argument belongs.

There are others, of course, and feel free to add them here. These are the two most aggregous of all the bullshit arguments that litter this board lately. I won't comment excessively on the "Obama is a homophobe" business (though I believe it to be an utter load of shite and onions) primarily because it sets off the dumbest flamefests this board has ever seen, and I include the ravings in the 9/11 cellar in the comparison.

At least with respect to 1) and 2), please stop. It's self-defeating, dumb, and embarrassing. And false.

1. I'll grant you number one, but, as far as I am concerned,
Obama is all style and no substance. I just tried to listen to his victory speech. I couldn't finish. It was such a waste of time. He talks a lot and says nothing. It drives me crazy. Nice guy, I'll grant you that. But he does not know what he is talking about and rather than think things through, he just repeats generalities -- all sounds good if you don't analyze it.

2. Also, New Hampshirites will demand specifics
They're not "nice", impressionable people like Iowans.

5. Were you expecting an extensive policy dissertation?
I mean, really. Time and a place for everything.

4. He provides extensive specifics
I posted a link for you there.

It's a bullshit argument, however much you may be endeared to it.

It's dumb and false. The guy's practically a policy wonk.

6. I heard Hill speak about a year ago, and I know what you mean. One of the first things
she said is, "Americans are the hardest working people on earth," and I knew right then and there that Hill was a bald faced liar, willing to pander and tell people any kind of crap at all if it helped her realize her ambistion for power.

Now to be fair, anybody who makes a sustained campiagn run for the job is ambitious. But some are so ambitious they are willing to serve up a load of crap and expect people to buy it.

They weren't buying tonight.
