Got the "Obama is a radical Muslim" e-mail today...

...from a superior at work, no less.

I responded that since the e-mail said the claim had been checked out on snopes.com and was "factual", and further, since it suggested I "check for myself", that I simply read and did what the e-mail suggested. I pointed out how it refuted everything in the e-mail and labelled the claim "False" (which by my definition does not equal "factual"). I included a link to the actual snopes entry on the claim.

Maybe (not very hopeful though) some people will actually check out these red herrings when they hear them. Especially when it actually ASKS you to check it out yourself!

and mention that this is not proper workplace behavior.

I've posted the Snopes link, said any idiot could and should check the facts on any forwarded political email, and if I ever found my email box contaminated by such utter horseshit again, that person would find out what "mail block" means. Then, if it happened again, I did it. If they really needed to contact me, there are always a visit, snail mail, or the telephone.

Because of the pesky "reply to all" box that so many people can't seem to resist, I've put my mail on complete block over the weekend nearly every weekend when one of those stupid things has gone around.

I do keep my business email separate from my fun email, though.

and I am sure this is only the start, regardless of who we nominate.
