Obama speech had pretty words but the delivery was off
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 01:46 PM by quinnox
I heard it in the background while I was busy yesterday and I liked the words but Obama's delivery was really off-putting. He sounded like he was trying to do a bad Martin Luther King impression or something.

Obama, sorry but you are no MLK. After awhile I just wanted Obama to shut up already, his voice and tone were starting to get on my nerves.

And I was surprised because supposedly this is Obama's strength, a prepared speech. I see by other threads I wasn't alone in not being impressed by his speech.

2. but people buy it, so it's working for him. he always sounds like that...
some people dig it, some people don't, but he only needs the masses to like it. so the delivery is actually on.

or how you see pretty much anything he does in a negative light.

4. Wow -- I must have heard a completely different speech!
I am an Edwards supporter, but that speech blew me away. It was inspiring. My husband, also an Edwards supporter, was moved beyond words as well.

18. Obama's speech was very inspirational and Edwards speech
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 02:07 PM by alyce douglas
was reflecting on the issues that are facing us today, both were very good, it depends what you as a candidate are looking for. Obama projected Hope something all of us need, but in today's world we also need to hear how many people are suffering in our own country and to give voice to those issues that are confronting us all.

5. I really disagree. I loved his speech last night, and I thought the tone was spot-on.
Edwards had a great speech too, I thought, as did Hillary. I worry that hers may have been a bit too conciliatory, but what the hey.

To me it sounded like more style than substance.

9. In all fairness, I think you wanted him to shut up because Hillary lost
I think that is okay. I felt the same listening to Huckabee. I think Obama's speech was great but the last thing Clinton supporters wanted to hear from Obama was a good speech with good delivery.

I thought Senator Clinton's speech was nice...I hated the way Matthews, Fineman, and Mitchell were talking about her on MSNBC. I only watched because Oberman was on.

10. Wow, that is harsh
Clinton's speech was SO saccharine I though I was going to fall asleep. I thought Edwards' speech was by far the best, but Obama's was also great and I did not see him trying to act like MLKJ.

Don't be a sore loser. Too late, I guess.

Maybe other "clintonites" as you put it didn't think there was much substance, but I felt there was substance but that Obama's speech making skills were not so good.

Indeed, she was channeling Jesus himself. You could hear the angels singing in the background.

He isn't conversational at all. That'll be a big problem for him in a general.

28. Conversational? Now, wouldn't it have been kind'a rude for him to have a conversation with someone
when there's an arena full of screaming, cheering supporters who want to hear a speech?

19. Uhh..what are you talking about?
I watched the speech last night. I am one of the few undecided Dems out there. I was moved by his speech. It was fantastic and hit all the right notes. Hillarys's had me drooling and nodding off. Edwards was okay. I really like Obama. I am 32 years old and voted for Clinton Gore and Kerry. I go more for personality and how a person lives their lives than minute detail of some policy that may never happen. Obama seems a good man with a family he cares about. Hillary is just power hungry. She turned me off and Edwards is a mix of the two. One good thing about last night for all Dems is that Repubs picked a born again wacko for their winner and we out caucused em 2 to 1. Very good night last night.

20. To me he just speaks in "fluff" - lots of hot air, cliche's and blah blah blah.
To the neophyte I can see how they could be taken in but not people who have "been around the block." Been there, heard that.

"Obama, sorry but you are no MLK."
He said he was another MLK?

"After awhile I just wanted Obama to shut up already, his voice and tone were starting to get on my nerves."
There's a little red on/off button on your tv/radio. If you push it, whatever you're hearing will no longer be audible...

"I see by other threads I wasn't alone in not being impressed by his speech."
And this undecided voter is certainly not alone in being impressed by it.

32. For a victory speech, I thought it was very good.
I also enjoyed Edwards' speech and liked the conciliatory "up with democrats" tone of Clinton's. In terms of speeches, my preferences from last night were Obama-Edwards-Clinton. Personally, I thought all the dem speeches were pretty good. In terms of candidates, my preferences are Edwards-Obama-Clinton.

A friend of mine, a very strong Edwards supporter, was extremely impressed with Obama's speech. He really hopes Edwards hangs in there, but if he can't down the line, he's gonna support Obama.
