Statement from Sen. Joe Biden
Published: 01/04/2008

“I am not going away. I’m returning to the Senate as the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and will continue to ensure that we protect the nation’s security and show our country that Democrats know how to keep America safe, keep our commitment to our troops and restore our country’s respect in the world.”

1. Was that his complete concession statement?
If so, his brevity rocks and I love it.

5. I actually think it was excerpted from his concession speech. I wanted to post
it because it specifically addresses his continued support for the troops. He's been a champion for a long time, and it's important for people to know he'll still be there fighting passionately for them.

11. Oh I was hoping for one of his KISS moments
Keep it Simple Sir - he's the KING of that. One more reason why I love him.

tells me this country is in the grip of a monumental ignorance.

but I take comfort knowing that he and Chris Dodd will still be in the Senate fighting the good fight.

14. He will make a good VP or a very good SecState
if he wants to play a role in the executive branch.

Or, Chairman of the Senate FRC (and possible replacement to Harry Reid) is a good thing for him as well.

I was hoping that he would emerge as the consensus "level head" and win the nomination at a brokered convention (no single candidate of Clinton, Edwards, Obama would have enough to win). But he had to stay in to be considered (my feeling) and, financially, it didn't work out (at least, he hinted at that in his concession speech last night).

15. He'll be missed, especially at the debates
I learned to admire Joe during this campaign. He played the game with dignity and, for those of you who remember, his New Year's resolution answer at the Des Moines debate was an unforgettable display of emotional depth and restraint. He's a formidable human being.

I think he deserves a nice retirement. Like all the others who supported the Iraq war.

21. He lost, but in doing so, he brought honor to himself.
No major missteps. His supporters here on DU were polite and grown-up. He didn't go dark-side negative.

When Bhutto was assassinated, it seems his first thoughts were for his country, not for his campaign.

And you can bet that we haven't seen the last of Joe Biden.

I am afraid that if McCain is nominated, he could defeat Obama or Hillary. Edwards would be a better choice.

31. We need him to be around
His voice in the debates raised the quality of discourse all around.

As I posted in another thread, I think Biden would make one hell of a VP. Or Secretary of State.

Don't go away, Joe! You are the best thing that happened in this campaign season. You woke a lot of your colleagues up and were entirely honest about what is possible versus what is utopian.

The candidates are playing to win, but Joe Biden is so honest that it probably hurt him with the voters.

He's got a long ways yet to go, and so much to contribute.

33. Just one other thing
In the interview he did with ReachMD XM channel 157, he was the only Democrat who was not ashamed to say, "I'm a Democrat." To paraphrase, he said, "As a Democrat, naturally I'm for affordable health care for anyone."

He was asked the hard question of what his priorities were, and he said, "To be honest, my priorities are Iraq, Iraq and Iraq, but I will get moving on health care the week I'm in office--there's no reason I can't do both."

Stay with us, Joe!

A third-rate mind with a love for imperialism who's as guilty as any White House crony for the hell in Iraq: that's Joe Biden.
