Clinton says she is the most "innocent"
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 06:25 PM by calteacherguy
From the London Times:

As soon she arrived in New Hampshire, Mrs Clinton immediately launched far sharper and more personal attacks on Mr Obama. In a reference to his self-admitted past drug use, she told a cheering crowd at Nashua airport: “Of all the people running for president, I’ve been the most vetted, the most investigated, and — my goodness — the most innocent, it turns out.”

17. I'm sorry, but that doesn't make sense...
How does that make her "the most innocent".I don't know of any other candidate who has been thrown in jail. It was a knock on somebody.

2. going negative will backfire.
I believe New Hampshire residents will see this exactly for what it is--a last ditch effort on her part.
And it is just so Republican to try to scare people out of voting for your opponent.

32. Yup, going negative in the last weeks of Iowa didn't exactly work, did it?
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 07:06 PM by earthlover
Now it will be viewed even more as desperation tactic, now that she lost big time in iowa.

If Obama has a wave of new voters and independents behind him, all the negative old style crap will only reinforce that we need something different from this crap and the idea that Obama is the alternative.

Looks like Hillary, faced with a huge problem, is going with the old school campaigning....in the face of an exodus for something new.

And I might add...Obama is now the front runner. He doesn't have to attack. He beat Clinton and Edwards in Iowa without being particularly negative, and now he can bask in the slogan of hope that got him here in the first place. Unless the others have some serious dirt....not any of the minor league variety we have seen so far...it will continue to be Obama's to lose.

I do find it sad in a way that Edwards has been pretty much shoved aside by the media. After all, he beat hillary (by a slim margin but still higher). But it has turned into a two person race. This in itself is bad for clinton and good for obama. But not exactly fair to edwards.

Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 06:13 PM by calteacherguy
She's reminding everyone of Obama's past drug use without stating it explicitly. "I'm the most innocent," blah, blah, blah.

The London Times understands this, why don't you?

23. I echo the OP, what do you think she meant by that comment?
I saw the clip on television and when she said it, I wondered what she referred to when she said she was the "most innocent... as it turns out". All I could think of was a reference to the drug thing. Apparently the writer of the article as well as the OP thought the same.

What do you think she meant by it?

18. As an Edwards supporter, this does seem like a pretty benign response.
And she's absolutely correct with her statement. She has been the most vetted, the most investigated...not sure about the most innocent part. I really doubt that she'll make Obama's past experimentation with drugs the linchpin of her attempts to provide a serious contrast between between him and herself. I suspect that there are a few skeletons in her closet in this regard.

I'd hoped she wouldn't go there, but it appears this is definitely part of her strategy. The more she does this, the more committed I am to see her defeated.

She was referring to the the 5 years that a special prosecutor was hounding them while in the WH and found them free of guilt (except for Bill's dalliance with ML).

The whole world doesn't revolve around Obama!!!!

30. Where's the evidence for that?
The reporter who was there took it as a clear attack on Obama.

Unless you have evidence to the contrary, I have to take his word on it.

35. Yes, reporters are sources
There's a difference between a reporter giving an opinion (like that Obama is cocky or Hillary is cold) and a reporter giving the context behind a quote.

31. I can see your point, but...
What she said was “Of all the people running for president, I’ve been the most vetted, the most investigated, and — my goodness — the most innocent, it turns out.

So, who of the people running for president, has she found to be guilty of something?

34. Innocent or not, the RW will be gunning for whoever it is
We know this. It isn't the left we need to fear, but the right. And you can be as innocent as they come, and as honest, and the right will invent lies to smear over you and scare people away from you with. What we need is someone who can successfully deflect incoming smears. So far, only Obama has received much of anything in this race--from Hillary--and has deflected it handily. I'm talking about the kindergarten story and the drugs in high school story. So he looks promising so far on that score.

36. She really will say anything.
When the polls say its time for change then she becomes the change candidate. Or the experienced candidate. Or whatever kind of candidate she thinks people want that week. People are so sick of this kind of shameless pandering.
