Obama Live in NH: "I Will Bring the Troops Home in 16 Months."
Can someone explain this to me? Over in GD, someone said well, he won't be President for another 12 mos, so that means he'll bring them home in 4 months. I find that hard to believe, but please enlighten me why our troops would be in Iraq 16 months AFTER a new president who campaigns on ending the war is elected. How many will die in 16 mos?? Just askin...

1. He means he'll bring them home starting in 2009.
His supporters are trying to make you think he'll have them out 4 months after being elected. Not gonna happen.

Edwards has promised within 12 months.

Why are you putting words in our mouths?

I imagine if he wanted to pander, he'd say 12 months, but obviously some of his foreign policy or military advisors have told him it will take 16 months.

He has always said he'd bring home one or two brigades a month starting immediately upon his Presidency.

Leopold guy said to what Obama says about withdrawal from Iraq.

A President Obama would have control over the timing.

Jason Leopold, reporter, had no control over when a prosecutor would bring indictments.

4. Obama believes in drawing down troops I believe 1-2 brigades a month
So that we can safely have all troops out in 16 months time. The troop pullout will begin immediately.

8. It has to be slow and careful, with a lot of planning. DUers don't seem to understand this--
they think we can just pull the plug and have everyone back by Easter. Got news for them--Obama isn't about to cave to pressure and do anything irresponsible that would jeopardize American and Iraqi lives needlessly and leave a power vacuum for terrorists there.

12. oh I understand it needs to be done carefully, the problem is
some people point to that as an excuse to NEVER start the process at all.
