Should I abandon my brother and vote for Obama?
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 03:26 PM by itsrobert
My brother is gay. According to Obama, he's not worthy of having the same rights as Hetros. I think I will stand by my brother and vote against Obama.

31. That's splitting hairs. Obama gave the preacher a platform, and an audience,
on which to vent his vitriol.

I wish Obama would at least apologize.

21. You're not doing gays and lesbians any favors
because you're feeding the Obama supporters fake meme that the GLBT community anger at Obama over the McClurkin affair is partisan based. Which it isn't.

You're borrowing the GLBT's community's real and valid and non partisan anger to use in a partisan manner.

Not cool.

12. I don't think it's either/or
Because I don't think Obama has much difference with Edwards on this issue. Obama has not atoned for a symbolic mistake that angered many people. But if you look at their policies, there is no difference between Edwards and Obama on gay and lesbian rights issues.

worthy of having the same rights as others. I know there are some issues the gays have perceived and some claims that have been made at Obama of which I am not sure is correct or what exactly they are about, maybe you can enlighten us on that. Thanks.

I think there are some exaggerated claims and all the other stuff that goes with politics of which are not what they seem or perceived or not true at all.

Also, if you have already made your mind up, not sure I understand why you posted other than to tell us you are not going to vote for Obama & that is fine, your right, your choice of which you should go with your own heart.

20. Actually, in voting for Edwards, you will not be standing by your brother......
but if you don't realize that, then you should continue fooling yourself.

Obama never said what you are attributing to him, and that only shows that while many of us understand history in the making for all Americans, you will have missed the boat. You opportunity is here and now.....but certainly, like your messiah, you can always say you made a mistake 3 years from now.....when President Obama provides exactly the legislation your brother and millions of others deserve; equal rights for all.

Obama is for social justice, and that is what he worked towards. Edwards talks a good game, but there is nothing in what he did during his 6 year stint in the halls of power that suggests that he reflects any of what you give him credit for.

But keep fooling yourself. Edwards is very good looking and says the words you want to hear. That should satisfy you until you come to your senses.

President Obama will give you a lot for you to rejoice and smile about soon.

till then, carry on!

32. Vote for Kucinich
If Obama is a homophobe, then so are Edwards ("I'm uncomfortable with gay marriage") and Hillary from the homophobic as Hell DLC, who brought us "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and the Indefensible Marriage Act (as I like to call it)

If you want a candidate willing to stand for full equality NOW, vote for Dennis. Either that, or take your chances with the media-annointed candidates.

37. Well, McClurkin hype all aside....
... I might think that (of the three media-annointed candidates) the one who has had to deal with discrimination himself, might be the one most likely to understand, and therefore do something about it, when he is able to.

Now that's a gamble, of course. And I could be wrong. In either case, I'm not endorsing Obama, just throwing that fact out there for consideration.

49. You probably should learn more about
ANY candidate you plan on voting for. Edwards and Obama hold the exact same view when it comes to gay marriage.

And for the record, as a lesbian, I don't believe the government should recognize marriage at all. ALL unions recognized by the government should be civil unions. Churches or other entities can 'sanctify' the union however they see fit.

50. Edwards is far worse on the issue..
Obama has called for the entire repeal of DOMA, while Edwards has not (unless he has flipped flopped on that since the debate where this came up).

Both said they are personally against gay marriage, but Obama said that civil unions should be recognized FEDERALLY and states should be forced to recognize a civil union from another state, but that MARRIAGE should be reserved for religious institution.

Edwards has not called for states to recognize other state's civil unions.

Thus, under Obama, Gay rights will be EXPANDED

under Edwards, nothing will change.
