Obama had the advantage of not being a Senator BEFORE 2004...
...while Edwards had the advantage of not being a Senator AFTER 2004.
The Senate has been in a sorry state of disarray ever since Bush took over, and two of our candidates were lucky enough (or smart enough) to avoid at least SOME of the problems we've been having concerning Iraq (both starting it and stopping it), Iran, Lieberman, Bush, etc. Effectively, their "I wasn't a Senator at the time" argument both helps them and hurts them in attracting new followers--and kinda cancels each other out.
But I guess the real disadvantage goes to Hillary, who's been there just as long as Bush has, and seems to have been at the center of ever misstep or lost opportunity...but that's life, being a Senator today...
