Obama gets stupid on Iraq, sorry that is the only accurate description...
He first gave reduction of violence credit to the surge, then he said that his plan would be a redeployment to send message to Iraq gov't that they must shape up, BUT he then used the example that the violence declined as a result of the Democrats taking over Congress(hmmmm) in 2006 which caused the Sunni warlords to start working wwith the US. Ignoring completely that they began doing so only after the US began paying HUGE amounts of $$$ and furnishing the individual warlords with US arms.

This was a the WORST response so far concerning Iraq. If Edwards and Clinton don't make hay with this blunder perhaps neither of them should be president either.

8. "violence declined as a result of the Democrats taking over Congress"
That was a brilliant answer on his part even if there are no facts behind it. Sorry, but he will score some points on that exchange.

9. You completely misunderstood what he said
He said that the surge with 30,000 more troops in would decrease violence for a short time and bring it back to 2006 levels. He said we have gone full circle. He is correct.

14. His position is that the surge made violence go from horrendous to intolerable.
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 10:13 PM by AtomicKitten
To say the military surge is having zero effect in his whack-a-mole game would be disingenuous. He has explained very clearly and thoughtfully that that isn't the point, that that isn't the mission statement for the surge, and that it's time to get the hell out of dodge.

His position is not only truthful, it is right-on.
